 Subject: Roll Bars

Alright, I was thinkin bout gettin a roll bar for the bed of the dak. Now, as far as I know it's called a roll bar, but it could be called a light bar. I think ya'll know what I mean, the bar that sticks up above the cab that you can mount lights to. I was lookin around on Summit and Jegs and JC Whitney but I couldn't seem to find em. Am I using the right name? Or does anyone know where I could get one?

Yes its a Roll Bar. Theres someplace that makes a good one, do a search on here for them. Not many places have them because of the midsize bed.

No, it's really a "show" bar. A true roll bar needs to someway be mounted to the vehichles frame to have structural rigidity. A show bar looks awesome in the bed of a Dak, provides a mounting point for lights, and provides a little protection in a roll-over. When people talk about show bars, it's kind of like when you talk about wheels. People call wheels "rims" way too much. The "rim" is only the outer edges of the measured width inside the wheel. "I got me a set of new rims yesterday." I said, "Did you buy the complete wheel, or just the rims?" They usually don't know what I'm talking about. If you do install a show bar, make a plate for the bottom for your attachment underneath the bed where your nuts and washers are. This will add a little extra strength. A friend of mine did this and when a car hit his lifted Ranger and rolled it, the extra plates on the bottom seemed to help. Hope this helps you.

Thanks for your help. After I posted that, I searched and found them called truck bars as well. So I guess it's all whatever the manufacturer wants to call em. My local shop told me they haven't ordered them in years b/c apparently they aren't real popular. I dunno. Thanks for the help tho.
