I was thinking for some reason my dakota may have come stock with 31's. So I wouldnt worry about it.

If your speaking of a 94 Dak as your name states...i dont think those came stock with 31's, so you may need to. The GenIII came with either 3.55 or 3.92 gears with 31" tires. But i guess the output of the motor would factor in with the axle gearing too. Ok, i dont really know, maybe someone else does:(

You dakota came stock with 3.55 gears. I have a 93, 4x4,extended cab, with the same gear ratio without a lift and I have 31s on my truck. There is a little difference but it's not that great. I wouldn't swap out gears unless you want to.

i have a v6 dakota w/ 33s and 4.10's and its still could be a little lower but with only 31's i think the best ratio 4 u would be the 3.92 but the 3.55 should do ok. if u have a 4x4 its about $500-600 to install ring and pinions with all the necessary bearing seals etc. thats what it cost me to do it myself. it wasnt that hard the chrysler has a good setup which makes setting backlash very easy. ne more questions about the setup e-mail me
