Message: Bakindak-
Have you ever had a front locker? I have run front lockers on almost all of my rigs, and I can tell you for fact that the turning thing is greatly exagerated, and that a front locked vehicle will almost always outdue a rear only locked vehicle.

Message: NO I have not, but I would be worried about the abuse the front end would be taking if you were to turn on the street and the front end was locked.
I dont do enough serious off roading to deem needing anything up front, at present the front is open and I have an LSD in the rear

Message: I am looking into a locker at moment for rear though. The rear end needs rebuilt so I was considering an eaton e-locker. Does anyone have any info on it. Thanks

The only way it would be abused is if it were a spool or something. Lockrights, ez-lockers and even the newer detroits will unlock to let one side spin faster then the other during turns.

Any word on the eaton???? It sounds promising, but if someone had first hand experience with it, that would be even better.

Message: yeah the auto lockers kinda suck in the rear. But in the front you never notice them because there is no power to the front until you engage the front drive shaft ala 4x4 switch. The only locker thats decent in the rear is a full detroit soft locker or a selectable.

Message: Been there done that ... DakotaGuy ... your logic is quite flawed, but, by the sounds of your earlier posts, I am not at all up to the challenge of convincing you otherwise. IMHO, the best setup for the front is a switchable locker. And, yes, I've had both ... and I will do the switchable again, but I will NEVER have a non-switchable locker in either end of any truck I ever own. Either a LS or a Switchable for the rear (depending on the severity of the duty I intend with the truck), and a Switchable, or nothing, for the front. Just my two cents.

Message: LOL! The only thing I base my opinon on is expereince. During compeition and daily driving. Not theory or my biddies cousin friends sisters boyfriend had one and it took him 10 blocks to do a 30 point turn. I can say for fact that in 2wd the only thing you will notice is some clicking and ratching with a lockright or ez locker in the front of your rig. In 4wd there will be some tendency for the rig to want to go straight instead of turning. But once you expect it it can be delt with.......Lunchbox lockers have springs that allow one side of the locker or the other to disengage, when not under power, and to spin faster or slower then the other thats where the ratching sound comes from. Our newer rigs much like new jeeps have hub units so you can't disengage the axle at the hubs. The transfer case now becomes the disonnect point. The NP231 which as far as I know is stock on the majority of wranglers and dakotas. It doesnt engage the front driveshaft until you flip the switch or pull the lever, which ever it might be. That means there is no power going to the front end. Don't take my word for it call power trax or trac tech, or go to any of the jeep boards where they have this discussion about once a week because newbs dont understand how it works and why it works.
Is that the my flawed logic?

Message: I have the Detroit locker in the rear and It is quite and makes no banging or clicking noises. It does not let loose on turns letting the inner tire spin slower as it needs to. It is a full time locker and on the road your tires will chirp on turns and from a stop. It is the one of the best way to go but will cost you. It is a full carrier change. I dont know how many times buddies have had problems in a certain spot off road and I have none at all. Gotta love a locker off road.

Message: I totally agree with forexfour yep full detroits are the way to go. I personally dont care for ARB seen to many problems on the trail. I have an EZ locker in the rear of my TJ. It is a lunchbox style that fits inside the stock carrier. I dont really care for it. It bangs, locks and unlocks at seemingly odd times. It really sucks in Ice.

Message: Why is no one talking about the Powertrax no-slip as an alternative?
I've got one in the rear of my 2001 QC 4x4 and think it's pretty good.
Most of my driving is on road .
Off road limited to muddy logging roads once in a while.
Is anyone experiencing problems with their Powertrax units?

Message: Hey guys, to begin with it is my opinion that ya shouldn't install a front locker in daks because the CV's and IFS just aren't up the task. Not trying to trash the daks I own a 99 myself which Im gonna build up soon with a SAS.(Ill have pics by this summer hopefully) Lockers put a lot of added stress on axles and joints. If you were going to add anything but a selectable locker I would be careful because on my 89 cherokee with a dana 30 and and np231 I decided not to put a locker because although the front axle doesn't receive power untilt the transfer case is engage the locker changes something int he front differntial that causes the pinion and thus the front driveline to spin and rotate even when the transfer case isnt engaged thus putting more wear and tear on your front end.
