Message: I want to get some offroad tires( probably the bfg's mt's). But I don't know what size to get. I have a 2003 4x4 with the stock 16 x 8 rims with 265/70-16 but i'm thinking of getting another set of rims (my present tires only have 9000 miles on them). I've read that you can fit 32"/11.5"-15's on without a lift and no rubbing problems, but i wasn't sure if a 31"/10.5-15 would perform better than a 32" or would there be no difference at all.
I have cranked the torsion bars up 1" or so and it looks like there would be plety of clearence I just wanted a couple other opinions.

Message: YOu wont loose as much power with the smaller tires. Personally I'd stay with the 16" wheels. They have less side wall and that improves performance in almost all situations. I would try and shoot for a 33x12.5 if it were me, or just stick with the same size you have now. Also you should consider the Trxus MT, made by interco. Should have better wear, and is still an aggressive tire.

Message: I don't think 33's will fit unless I do alot of trimming. I'd like to stay away from that. Only reason for thinking of 15's is price, 15" tires and rims are much cheaper. thanks for the input.

Message: Yeah but unless your buying new wheels as well.......Just make sure a 15" wheel will clear everything. Many times 16" wheels are mandatory because 15's will hit the calipers.

Message: Check out the BFG Land Terrain at your local Walmart (made by BFG for Walmart).
I run LT265/75R16 on my '01 QuadCab 4X4 and have no problems.
They are about 32.5 tall (if memory serves me right)and being a Light Truck tire they have 3ply sidewall.
Best of all they are cheaper then All Terrain with similar tread pattern.
I have traversed the Serria Nevadas, Black and Cerbat mountians with out problems (rocky and sandy trails).

Message: I just saw that pro comp is having a buy 4 tires for the price of 3 sale. Very tempting. Anyone have any input on their mud terrains or Xterrains. Those X-terrains look bad A$$.

Message: X-terrains are only good for rock-crawling. They are a good all-terrain tire. They look like a mud tire, but don't clean very well. They pack-up with mud. A friend I went to school with has owned a tire shop for ten years and rock-crawls on the week-ends. He loves the X-terrains for crawling and that's it. No muddin' with these tires. A couple of 4wd magazines also have the same opinion. I think Pro-Comps are just grossly over-priced. If I wanted something like an X-terrain, I'd get a Mickey Thompson Baja Claw radial 305-70-16 which is what I'm getting. The only bad thing I've heard about the claw is that they might not last as long as a lot of other mud tires.

Message: If you have a 2003 then 15" wheels will not fit because the calipers are too big. If you are putting 32's on you will be fine height wise, but you will rub the frame on full turn. I have 32X11.5's on mine and put a 3/16 wheel spacer on stock wheels and it's fine. With 33X12.5's, you will want to add at least a 2" body lift and get wheels with proper back spacing. BFG makes a 33X10.5 that would probably not rub on the frame. Another tire to think about is the Kuhmo MT. Looks just like the BFG and costs $50 apiece less. I was going to buy them about 3 mos ago, but everyone was out of them. They were supposed to be re-stocked in March, so you may want to give them a look.

Message: My Mickey Thompson Baja Claw radials measure 33 inches tall, 11.7 inches wide on 16 inch factory wheels. They are 305-70-16's. I have a 3 inch body lift and Torsion bars cranked 4 turns for almost an extra inch of front clearance. Also, I raised my front bumper even higher than with the Performance Accessories brackets by adding extra shims. It's almost flush with the parking lights now. My shimming raised it another 1/3 of an inch. I refuse to trim my plastic air dam, so or buy offset wheels and that's why I went with a 33 that's 11.7 inches wide with 10 inches of tread. I did a lot of research before I paid the tire man $770 for everything. I wanted something that would fill up my wheel-wells, articulate off-road, not stick-out past my fender flares and look just plain awesome. The tire guy said the my Dak looked so good that he took a picture of my truck and he's a Ford man! I went wheeling last weekend and these tires did great. They slung mud and self-cleaned and were awesome for the rock-crawling we did. They grabbed great traction on even the smoothest of rocks. I'm wery pleased with my Claws, but I wouldn't recommed them unless you're like me and believe they're worth the $175 per tire. With all my stock suspension flexing I never rubbed once. I attribute that to the width(11.7). With all the ballhootin' I did Saturday, I would have rubbed the sidebiters off a 12.50. I think that with Daks that already have 16 inch wheels that with a 3 inch body lift a 285-75-16 or 305-70-16 is the way to go. With no lift and cranked T-bars, then a 265-75-16 is what works and looks best.

Message: I have 31X12.5-15s on my stock 99 dak. I was recently looking for tires and found this size hard to find but the 32's very easily i found. Would these work on my truck without alteration to the fenders, ect.?

Message: 32-11.50-15's are fine on a stock dak. If you want to take it off-road then you'll probably have to either slightly crank the torsion bars or trim just a little of the innermost plastic in your front wheel-wells. If there is any amount of mud or dirt in your wheel-wells, it will be easy to see where you're rubbing since the rubbing spot will be rubbed clean. 32's look real good on a stock Dak.

They have them in 32x11.5x15 to, plus they have snow rateing. Tire Rack is where I got mine $93 a tire. Wearing good so far 10,000 miles on them. Built up the turning stops to prevent rubbing on frame no trimming. 15x7 wheels, no lift, no torsion bar addjustment.

Message: Ok so after doing some reading and research it looks like I can run 32x11.50's on my 2003 quad 4x4 is that right? Stock size is 265/75/16...
Now for gearing issues... are there any and if so are they dramatic? I do some towing and don't want to hurt anything long term...
