Subject: pictures 3" Rancho lift and 32" tires IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone have pictures of a 3" Rancho lift and 32" tires?
Will 32x11.5" tires rub at full lock or at full suspension compression (or even with a combination of full lock and full suspension compression)?

Message: Thanks erckota for the lead, I have seen Forexfour's site and it is pretty good...
However, I am trying to see what the Rancho lift looks like with 32's and NO BODYLIFT. This seems to be a difficult combo to find.
I guess most folks that do the 3" Rancho lift go with a body lift and 33's. I dont want to go that tall (too much strain on the drivetrain, brakes, suspension, etc), but I would like a true 3" suspension lift and 32's.
ANYBODY???

Message: I have a couple from when i was running 32's right after the rancho lift.
The only bummer is that the front has a rake because the T-bars needed to be adjusted.

Message: Tx-Hop,
Thanks for the pictures. I feel like a little kid on friggin Christmas. I have spent hours searching for pics like these.
A few more questions if you are so inclined:
What were the approx install costs?
What width tires can be used so there is no rubbing and no fender or wheelwell trimming required?
Are the stock 16" wheels able to be used or do you need different backspacing?
Can a 32" spare tire fit in the spare tire storage area under the rear of the vehicle?
Can the OEM skids be retained or do you have to buy new skidplates?

Message: I ran some 32's I borrowed from a friend when I hit Hollister the first day after the lift. the only problem I had was that the rims were AE589 with 3.25" of Backspace My torsion bars were not cranked up at all and I rubbed on the outer fender due to the backspacing. After setting the torsion bars to proper height it was fine. I do have some photos of this on my site.
Yes you can fit a 32 or a 33 as a spare in a club cab, not sure about a quad cab.
Stock Backspacing is at 5.5" and a 285x75x16 comes real close to rbbing the upper ball joint. A .25" spacer will help but a rim with 4-4.5 inches of BS should work good. If you have upgraded to MOOG uppers then you will not clear with the 285x75x16. the 32x11.5x15 is a 15" tire so you need a 15" rim.
The Rancho lift replaces the front skid plate with a smaller one but it covers /protects everything fine. I am still needing to modify my old plate to cover the small gap left.
Not sure if you will need to trim since I had already trimmed mine previously. You will still have frame rub potentially at full turn lock with the 32x11.5's definatly with the 33x12.5. Changing the BS to less than stock will fix this but I would not go more than 1.5" less but it is hard to find rims like that.
Cost to install depends on the quality of the shop you use. I had my mechanic do the work and it was $88.00 per hour and it took them all of the 10 hours as listed in the installation guide. I have heard some shops will only charge $500.00. Shop around if price is an issue. For me quality and know how is the most important. $$ is the least important thing in anything I do to my truck. Everyone has their own preference.

Message: Chris,
Thanks for the feedback
285x75x16 tires are 33". I am interested in running with only 32" tires. Will I still need to use less backspacing that the standard 5.5" backspacing on oem wheels?
If I use 32's with stock backspacing, how much clearance would I have under worse case conditions (full turn under full suspension compression)
Since the backspace will move the tire further from the differential, the stress on the balljoints will be higher. Any concerns regarding this issue in road stability and offroad toughness?
ps. I agree that paying for quality in this type of mod is smart.

Message: 285x75x16 are pretty much 32's. You can run this tire with only a torsion bar cranking and some minor trimming. At full flex you will have very little clearance left but you should clear ok. Full flex and full turn you will get frame rub.
Yes less BS will stress the front end. If you off road like we do then I would not do it but others will tell you no biggie.
Since the Dakota just really is not made to run the tires we want to run you either have to deal with it or stress the front end with less BS. If you are streeting it only then you will most likely be fine.
Chris
I have noticed on my passenger front tire the my 33x10.5x15's are rubbing at full turn lock. I have never felt it but I can see a small ware pattern showing up. Drivers side nothing.

Message: Hey Forexfour,
I've visited your site quite often. I think you're probably the only Dak owner that could rub 33-10.50-15's with as much lift as you have. I have seen the way you four-wheel. You do a lot of hardcore stuff. You are the man!

Message: I cant figure out why or when I rub on the frame but there is definate evidence of it. A very small rub spot but it is there. I cant believe it either. I have no rub on the drivers side. Wierd!
