Message: I have a 2003 Dakota with 5500 miles on it 4.7 with 4WD. I just discovered that I drove it home from my brothers house (about 50 miles) on a dry pavement up to 65 mph in 4WD by accident. I plain old forgot that I had it in 4WD. Is this an issue? Can I expect that I've possibly caused some kind of potential damage? This is by the way my first vehicle that has 4WD capabilities.
Thanks

Message: Probably cause no real damage. If you tried to turn a corner at slow speeds, you would probably have felt the binding (rough running, noisey grinding sound). You did probably take a few extra miles off your tires and stressed your drivetrain more than normal miles worth. No sense in worrying over spilt milk though.

Message: dont worry, running 4x4 will never hurt itself. all it can do on dry pavement is make you take off better and complain when you make sharp turns. Steve

Message: Don't feel bad or worry about it Jeff, I think you should be all right. Just make sure you keep up with the standard maintance and I think you'll be fine. I did the same thing on a trip to Kentucky Motor Speedway. I think I ended up running about 30 miles or so in 4-hi. I also had low miles at the time. If we both had over 100,000 miles on our trucks, then I might worry about it a little and check the transfer case. If you are really, really worried about it, then have a qualified mechanic take a look at it. You should still have a warranty so I wouldn't sweat it, it's just broke in now.
