I have a 94 dakotathat when I put it in 4x4 and hit the gas it pops and snaps real loud. It is in the transfer case I think. I replaced the half shafts and that did not do it. The front drive shaft u-joints are not loose or at least not when I shake the drive shaft.I need help if anyone else has had this problem. I need to know how to fix it orhow much it would cost to rebuild the case.

Thanks, Steve

hey, i have kinda of the same problem, but with mine, it doesnt pop out, it just sounds like chewbaka. i got a price for a rebuild kit for mine and they said $80 i believe, but of course, you would have to do it yourself and until you finish it, you will be out of a truck. good luck Steve

the first problem sounds like the one I had...the person who owned the truck before me never greased the front driveshaft that runs between the transfer case and the front diff. so it siezed up and wouldn't slide in and out when the suspension flexed...so I had to replace that...cost 350 if I can remember

hey, im not completely sure what the kit includes, i think things like new wear plates for the shifter forks, and new bearings and gaskets and probaibly some other stuff. a new chain is about 70. i called a place a few miles away from me up here in MI called DTS(drive train specialists). they told me the price and could ship one out to you if you want, but there are probabily places closer to you, but here is the number 1586-778-0540.
