I've heard that the Dana 60's out of a 70's model Ford is the best axle to go with because it is the closest size for a Dakota..?? does that sound right?

i don't know about the width of the ford dana 60 but i have a dana 44 from a 79 f150 mocked up right now and it is perfect. wheel flange to flange on this axle is 67", 4" wider than stock. its mocked up with 38" boggers on 8" wheels with a 3.75" backspacing. it looks really good. the front axle should be fully installed by tommorrow night. i'm going to start working on the web site with pics and details of the swap this weekend.

Just checked out this web site:

http://www.4x4wire.com/feature/99dakota/solidaxleswap/

Does anyone have pictures of the finished vehicle with bumpers installed?

Is the owner a member of this forum?

Does anyone know the cost to perform the entire lift?

Canyon... some people i have talked to, said i should expect to drop at least $5000 and thats if i provide the axles..., so you should expect to add on another $1500 - 2000

i'm doing this on a 2000 quad cab, the farication is being done at hostile off road in clarksville tn. so far we've been working on it for 2 weeks and expect to be done in about a week.it would be possible to do in two weeks if not for waiting on parts and work schedual. the f-250 axles should be the same width as the 150s which is 67" this is 4" wider than stock but works out well. keep in mind that most f-250s came with a dana 44, the only difference being from the knuckle out and leaf spring mounting. i wanted the coil suspension but either set should work fine. it just depend on what you want. i've got lots of pics of the fab work and should have a link to web site with pics and details in about 2 weeks.

I dont really understand where these high numbers are coming from.......I am contemplating this swap. I'm having a friend that owns a shop do this for me. He does alot of Yota solid axle conversions and he only charges $700.00 not including the axle.

He is charging me $500.00 for the labor. I bought a complete 1978 ford halfton Dana 44 for $250.00. Next I am buying some leaf springs, shackles, and spring hangers. Should be less then $200.00 for all those parts. Driveshafts and steering are all thats left to be delt with.....I can see 1500 to even 2000 with gears but 5 grand is gettin you up the butt! Any competant shop should be able to do this in less then a week if you have all the parts handy....

Hey DakotaGuy, where are you from?? If its not too far I might have that guy do mine if he'll do it for only $700. Let me know how yours goes and how much it ends up running you for all the parts and all. Thanks.

I'm from the oregon coast. I think I'm going to buy a winch and bumper set-up first, then work on the SAS.

hey dakotaguy the fabrication costs were about the same for me but lets look at all the other stuff. arb locker $600 per 4.56 gears sets $300, new tires and wheels $1200, rear disc conversion, $300, high angle driveline driveshafts $600. the list goes on but i think you get the idea. putting a solid axle under the truck is not that expensive. rebuilding the entire driveline and making it work like i wanted is. btw its finally rolling and so far most everything is working great just a few bugs to work out.

Anyone who thinks he can weld can call himself a "fabricator" and do SAS all day for next to nothing, but if my life ,as well as my family and all others on the road, is at risk because I tried to save a buck on something as important as my ENTIRE front suspension....

Yes it costs money to do thing right , and like it was already said , if you add up all of the things you will need , it will add up very fast.
