Subject: Body lift Questions IP: Logged
Message: I am going to put a 3 inch PA body lift on my 99' 4x4 single cab v6 3.55s, but i have some questions first.
My truck has a manual tranny, is a shift extention necessary on my truck? How does the extender go in weld, or screw in? Same with my floor 4wd shifter.
What offset rim should I use to clear 33x12.50s using a 15x8 rim?
Will my v6 be able to pull the 33s ok with only the 3.55s?
Does anyone have the hidden hitch so the trailor hitch is right under the rear bumper?
Can i rerun my dual exaust to come out right under the rear bumper instead of 3 inches below?
Is their any suprises in the instalation that i should know about for the dakota? I am having a friend that has installed many body lifts help me so i wont be blind as far as the installation goes.
All responses will be appreciated!!!
Thanx

Message: I think if you have a 99 dakota you should have enough respect for her to get her a suspenion lift.
also you can find them pretty cheap. Im a truck builder ive built many show trucks and im telling you body lift looks bad, you jack up the frame extend your parts and leave your suspenion stock.this=your truck higher so that everyone can see your whimpey suspension and if you do any real serious offroading a body lift isnt safe
just my opinion.v6 3.55 will turn them ok,the extender should be welded and always expect surprises.good luck -lefty

Message: Give me a break man if u can find a suspension lift for my 99 for under a $1000 then i will buy it. Have u looked at the prices of them ever? I have heard nothing but trouble from the suspension lifts other than rancho in this forum. Body lifts dont look bad on dakotas if u have ever seen one.

Message: erckota4x4, I'll see if I can help you with some of what you need to know. Remember, these are just opinions. If you are really wanting to run 15's with 33-12.50's, you'll need a wheel with no more than 4.5 inches of backspacing. That will put them kind of close to your frame and you'll probably have to do a little inner fender plastic trimming. If you use a wheel with under 4 inches of backspacing, your wheels/tires will stick out and will put a lot of leverage on your front suspension. If you want longevity on your front suspension, then go with 16's with 285/75/16's. Most of them are right at 33 inches tall and are 11.5 inches wide. Check out as many photos on this site and other sites like car domain. On car domain, set the search on Dodge Dakota and narrow the search to "off-road".
There will be about 69 Dakotas. A lot of them have 285/75/16's and they look good. If you go with 33/12.50's then put on your body lift, crank your torsion bars and put add-a-leafs in the rear springs. Go with a wheel with no more than 4.5 inches backspacing. 4 inches would be better. Visit Forexfour's site. I'm personally going to go with 285/75/16's on my factory 16's when I get my body lift put on. I'm also going to crank the torsion bars almost an inch. I'll probably still have to trim a little here and there. With the body lift on your truck you'll need to weld in a shifter extension, an extension for your 4wd shifter, and put in the kits steering shaft extension. Any decent muffler shop can re-hang your exhaust. Go with the Performance Accessories body lift. If you don't recalibrate your speedo, it will be off by about 4-5 mph. When it shows 60, you're going 64 or 65. Also make sure if you do any off-roading, carry a spare that's a 33. If you put your factory spare on with 33's you'll break something. Think about changing out to 4.10's later or at least factory 3.92's. Your 3.55's will be O.K. but with 33's it will be like running 3.21's. Here's some "cheap" HP mods. Air intake, relocate Intake Air Temperature Sensor, Autolite 3923 plugs, low temp thermostat, and modify Throttle Position Sensor. Good Luck.

Message: Mopar has a lot of stuff right. I have seen a 03 qc with a pa body lift, up close and uhhhhhh I thought it looked like crap. frame showing, hitch receiver to hide spare tire, nerf bars to hide frame, and all you got is a stock suspension. I held out for the rancho lift, glad I did, you body lift guys can talk, but off road, you won't be following me off road anytime soon. let the flames burn brighter, I am game
