Subject: jeep axles on my 96?? IP: Logged
Message: hey guys, i just have i kinda of crazy idea. i know a guy with n old parts jeep and was wondering if i could somehow put those axles on my truck to give it a solid front axle and making it easier to lift. i guess i am just wondering about the width and if the axles will fit up. Thanks, Steve
bye the way, the jeep is prob from the 70s or so

Message: you cant use the front axle from a CJ type jeep. too narrow. you can however use the axle from a full size jeep wagoneer or Honcho ( I think that was what the pick up truck version was called) but they have to be full size. the other axle that you can use is the axle from a 79 ford F150
but you need the rear axle. Ive been hearing the dana 60s slide right in the back pretty easy

Message: You need a front axle that has the gear housing on the driver side. and it needs to be from a full size truck. a lot of fords have the pumpkin on the driver side. so unless you know someone who can cut axle tubes and refit them. also I think the dakotas have a reverse rotation front axle so you need to think about that. You CAN use a Jeep CJ front axle ( dana 30 I believe) but you need to have the axle tubes widened and new axle shafts that are custom made to keep the 6 bolt pattern. From the swaps I saw and the one were gonan do to my buddys dakota were going with ford axles out of a 79 ford f150

Message: If you are planning on going with a tires over 33" don't use a Dana30, too weak. Pull a front Dana44 from a full size Dodge or Ford.
