Subject: 2002 Durango 4WD IP: Logged
Message: Hi guys... I have a 2002 Durango SLT+ 4X4...
I have the stock 265/75 (or 70) R16 wheels.
Need help with the following:
1- What is the biggest tyre size you can install without getting any rubbing? Note that I go out a lot in the desert and the car bounces a lot.
2- Any of you guys installed the Rancho 3" lift on a 2002 ... what is your feedback and tyre size you could fit with the 16" Rings?
Thanks...

Message: Width seems to be the biggest limiting factor to tire rubbing. Any tire wider than 11" will rub in the front. I have the largest oem tires on my Durango (265 70R16) and the rears rub on the top of the wheel wells at full articulation. Many on the DOC forum are running 32" dia x 11.5" wide BFG AT's on thier Durangos with minimal rubbing using the 2" shackle/torsion bar lift. The lift is cheap easy and reliable. Only $50 for parts and 2 hours to do lift in your garage with jack, jackstands, and handtools.

Message: Oh yeah,
The 3" Rancho lift will allow use of 33" tires (so will the 3" body lift), but beware, the front diff of the Durango is only strong enough to handle 31" tires safely. You can go bigger than 31", but broken axleshafts and gear carriers tend will probably occur if offroading with tires that large. I would advise sticking to 32" tires even if you go with the 3" lift.
