Message: Okay I got a high lift jack and my qquestion now it where can I use it? Is the rear bumper where it attaches to the frame supports on each side ok? Will a Grill guard put on the front (if modified with some sort of plate) be strong enough?

Message: I recently ran into this dilema while offroading the other day. I was trying to cross a deep ravine with sharp approach and departure angles, misjudged and ended up with my rear bumper on the ground HARD! Well, with my rear hitch under ground and my bumper resting on it, there was nowhere to jack the truck up from to get rocks under the tires. After about a half hour of brainstorming with my friend, I finally figured it out. What we did was to take some nylon strping that I happened to have in my truck (thank god) and ran it through one of my rear wheels leaving a loop on top. Then we used the loop to hook the high-lift up and....presto, it worked like a charm. This is a good thing to keep in mind as there is practically NOWHERE to place the high-lift on our Dak's

Message: Hi-Lift makes a bumper attachment for our type of trucks. It is a chain that is about 6 inches long with a hook on one end and a bracket on the other that fits on the jack's nob. I haven't tried it yet but it seems like the hook can attach under the plastic stuff and right to your frame. I will have to try it.

Message: Back tires are no problem to jack. The back bumper is attached to the the frame as is the tow bar. Lots of places to get under with the jack. The front is absolutely piss poor. The bumper is shielded by plastic so you can't get under it. The frame is buried so you can't get at it either. The only option I had was to put it under my brush guard. It worked but it scratched the *&^(*%$ out of the paint as I lifted it. The brush guard is mounted to the frame by 4 brackets thus these brackets support all the weight. I did not trust the brackets to support the engine end of the truck. I am open to suggestions!! Otherwise the hi-lift will have to be used as a winch with tow-ropes tied to the frame. In my case I will need to get a pull pal or somthing to secure to the ground. I can't believe the engineers designed the jack system like they did!! Bad design

Message: Hawkeye where is your findings?
Wasn't there a guy that did some mod's to his truck and added a new bumper? It seemed like you could get a jack under that thing easy. Please post. A new bumper may be the ticket for the front.

Message: Sorry this took so long but here it is.
Of course the high lift works fine on the rear if you have a receiver hitch. You can just stick the jack tongue into the receiver and jack away or I have a Warn reveicer shackle that works really well. I tried it on the grill guard and no go. Not strong enough. As soon as the full weight of the truck gets on it it want to start bending the metal of the guard adn pushing it back into the bumper and grill. I am thinking of getting rid of my grill guard for reasons I posted in the "Pre runner bar" post. I want to try to figure out a way to use the highlift on the front. May be able to come up with a way to mount something on the metal part of the bumper and connect it through the bumper to the frame and make some lift points. If I can come up with something I will let you guys know.
