Subject: not locking into 4x4

OK After i shift into 4 my lockouts are not locking out, at least thats what it sounds like.when i give it gas it starts to pop like its locking in and out of 4. when Im in 4 low it gets evan worse. Also when i turn it gets worse. Has anyone else had this problem, and do u have a solution?

I do not understand the words what is coming out of your mouth.

Do you mean your transfer case is popping into neutral? Or are you referring to the typical "lurching" that takes place with all 4 wheel drives, especially when you are turning. That "jumping" feeling is due to all the wheels attempting to drive at the same speed.

There are no lockouts on Dakotas. You must either be having problems with the transfer case popping into neutral (or some false neutral?) or something along those lines. All Dakotas had their axles tied directly to the differential. Some of the earlier dakotas had the front axle engaged by vacuum, but otherwise there shouldn't be any problem.
