Subject: Differential Flush IP: Logged
Message: I drive a 1997 Dakota SLT w/ 5.2l. I've got the Posi-trac w/ Limited Slip (stock differential). Anyways I decided to try to take my truck through a mud & water hole and the rear sunk up to the frame. I was curious on how I am to flush the differential and what else needs to be done to it to ensure that further damages aren't experienced from the water. ANY help would be appreciated.

Message: After a short drive, pull the plug out of the rear cover. Stick you finger in to the oil. If it's light brown/gray and foamy, then it's contaminated. You'll need to pull the rear cover off and clean it out.
If the oil looks good on your finger, don't worry about it. A little bit of water isn't going to hurt anything. After a long drive most of it will evaporate. Unless you live in the desert, there's always a little water in there after it sits.
