Message: A hi-lift jack would probably serve you better off-road than the hydraulic floor jack. Sometimes when you get buried you can jack yourself up with the hi-lift and throw some brush or whatever is around under the tires for traction.
One other thing to bring along is a friend with a 4x4. That way you have someone to pull out of the muck when you get bored. hehehe

Message: Bring a shovel, often you can dig yourself out of trouble. Also I always bring a couple of small sections (2 ft or so) of 4x6 post to wedge under the tires for traction in case you get high centered or stuck in the soft stuff. Another good idea if your not too far from civilization is a cell phone...cause you never know..

Message: In addition to what the others posted bring lots of water and some dried or caned food, pig putty or JB Weld, and some oil. If you have to you can use the oil in diffs., transfer case, and manual trans. in a pinch in addition to your engine. The pig putty is great for repairing punctured diff. covers and oil pans until you make it back to civilization. I always saved my old cap, rotor, fan velt and plugs and would throw them in my tool box with a spare set of universal joints just in case.

Message: I agree with Jim. I live in southern Arizona and I use a lot of the same gear. I keep them in a couple Plastic milk crates so that they are always ready and easy to throw into the back of the truck. Also out here in Arizona we find our selves driving in alot of sand, so I bring a tow strap, racheting come-along and a boat anchor for when I get stuck, and lots of water.

Message: I live in Tucson. Plenty of awsome places out here for off-roading. Like anywhere around the Catalina, Santa Rita, Rincon and Tortolita Mountain Ranges. Me and some of my friends do a lot of speilunking and a lot of the roads(mostly jeep trails)That lead to some of the best caves are pretty hard core. Usually requiring someone to get out and direct you on how to steer over large rocks. My Dak always comes through. Now that I have been running BFG AT KO 32x11.50's, it's been even easier.
