Subject: Tow Hooks? IP: Logged
Message: What kind of tow hook can you throw on the front of an '01 Dak? Just regular 2-3 bolt hooks from the auto parts store, or do you need brakets and a whole kit of stuff?

Message: There have been a ton of posts on this in the past. the older dakotas had a mopar kit available to bolt a brace and hooks to the front. I do not think this will work with the 2000 and later daks because the front frame sections changed some what. with out cutting up the front air dam, hooks arent available.

Message: My air dam has 2 holes in it where hooks could mount, but I haven't had a chance to look under there yet. My Jeep Cherokee required a special braket setup, so I know what you're talking about.
What do people use for front recovery if you can not mount hooks?...or Dak's just don't get stuck. ;)

Message: I have a 2000 dakota and have run into the same problem. Why would dodge make a 4x4 without tow hooks avaliable? I am still looking for a solution.

Message: Unfortunatly, there really isn't anything available. There are a couple of holes in the front fascia that look like they are for tow hooks. But they don't match the frame rails. You'll have to cut holes in the fascia or fab some really stout brackets.

Message: The reason there isn't much availability for tow hooks for the dakotas is because they weren't made for heavy off road use. These were meant for more passenger transportation over paved highways than they were for off road ability. Case in point: look at the crappy, weak IFS 4x4 in them.
As for tow hooks, I would say that your best bet is to fabricate something. Tow hooks should be easy to find in a junkyard or a parts store and you would just have to make brackets as needed to get them where you want them to be.

Message: True dat on the IFS for off-road use...I have a Jeep for regular trail use. I'm probably going to throw a front Hidden Hitch on the Dak and grab another Warn reciever D-ring.
...even if it doesn't get used off-road, I like having a tow point up front to yank roots, logs or anything else I don't feel like doing by hand or explosives. ;-)

I have a 3" BL and I used tow hooks off of a 1/2 ton Chevy and think they work very well. I had a Hidden Hitch Front Receiver but it was to low. It sat 10.5" off the ground vs the rear at 15.5", way to low for off roading!

Message: Perpetrate,
I know you posted this before but what grade bolt did you use to fasten the tow hooks. I would assume something less than a grade 8 because you would like a little flex.
Thanks,
