I don't think anyone would agure that more ground cleance is a must. At least 10". Also if the Gen 4 Dakota is available with a off-road deal! Would you rather keep the IFS or settle for a live front axel?

that would never happen but we can always dream. The 1500 dont even have solid axles anymore. wut is the world coming to. one day we might even have 4 wheel independent suspension trucks. YUCK! I know the H1 has this setup and is pretty successful offroad but the suspension of the Ford Expedition, and alot of other soccer mom suvs just makes me sick for the future of 4x4s.

I have a 99 with a straight axle. I did the swap my self. The axle came out of a older jeep wagoner and i lots the leafs and used king coil overs to keep the ride. So I would love to see a soild axle in the front. But if the dont the swaps are not all that hard and then you have a better truck then all those moms HEHE

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but the new dakota has redued ground clearance, worse approach and departure angles, and a heavier body.

I'll keep my Jeep with live axles for off-road use and just tow it with my Dakota.

I'm looking for a Ram Off-Road pick up. The problem is I don't like automatic for 4x4 trucks.

The gear ratio is just to high. So I gess I would just have to settle for a 318 instid of a toruqey 360.

Really what these Dakotas need is a suspension left, not a body left like the ones I see in my neck of the woods.

Also, I think installing a Locker (like the H2 uses) would be perfect for jeep like trails.

I'm just sick of the limited slip B.S. All they do is dig ditches and it looks like to me these auto makers should realise this.

Well, lets face it. These 4x4 trucks are not really built for serious 4x4 use. That's because most buyers don't use them for that. The companies build what sells so they can make a profit. It's too expensive to do tooling for those serious parts that hardley ever get sold. That's why you get LSD, IFS, and ABS as standard build items.

You just have to buy what you like, and then modify it to suite your needs. Don't wait for the factory to build it for you, because that just won't happen.

Well they did.. The 00-01 Dodge Ram off-road is a good example. The only problem was the 360 Magnum could not be optioned with a NV-4500 trans. You just have to made due with the Toruqe flite based 46RE. Those are great for R/T street trucks but not a 4x4.

I would love to see a D-44 under the front end of a Dakota.

But chances of that happening are like seeing one under a mini van.

I think the Dodge 440 Dart was backed by a 44 or was it a 60?

Well anyway, by reading about the new @ssugly Durango with its sissy 4x4 mushy suspension. I think I would just by a Gen 1 modle or better yet consider a Trailbalazer. Of course a Jeep Larado would be ok.

Yeah, most mopar muscle cars carried the D-60.

But I'm in the mood for another HD truck. And it might just be a Ram 3500SW. I bet those AAM axels are stout.

The auto makers won't put real posi in any truck. Do you realize how many moms with kids in the truck would be spinning out everywhere there are icy roads and causing accidents if they had real posi units. Imagine the death in these accidents. Many people have no instinct for how to drive on ice. Law suit city for the automakers, they'd be sued instantly for using an unsafe system on slippery roads.
