Subject: problems??? IP: Logged
Message: I know I haven't been around in a while, but finals are in a week 1/2 and I need to do all the studying I can. Anyway. Well, Ive been reading up on the problems with fabtech 3" lifts (ie bearing going out due to backspacing) and now Im getting concerned. Im going to be doing 2" lift SOON, and I don't want to have any future problems. Im planning on doing 1.5" coil spacers (for 2" lift) in front with new shocks, add a leafs in the back, and either a 2" or 3" body lift later on. I really want the stock 4X4 dakota rims (15X8 I believe) with either a 31" or 32" tire. I should be able to accomplish this from what Ive read here. My concern is, is there any potential problems with my planned setup? I don't want to run into fix its now as school is all I can afford. The truck is just a 4cyl 2WD and I know the gear ratios could end up way off, but that is the kind of thing Im looking for. Let me know any problems you guys have had with any of the parts Im planning. I don't want to reduce reliability at all, since my truck needs to last until after university and I can buy an H1 military hummer(hopefully)to play with. Thanks for all the help guys. I'll try to be around to answer others questions after classes end.

Message: Well, Im hoping since noone responded it is because they haven't had any problems. I did want to ask something else though. If you guys are running 3" suspension lifts, how bad is it hitting the bumb stops? When you are off roading do you max the downward travel? I would think 1" travel will be pretty useless. Is the 2" susp. bad too? I don't mind it knocking if you are flying down a trail and it rarely happens, but if its pretty freguent, thats no good. I guess the body lift would be a better choice in that respect. Anyway. Give me oppinions.

Message: I would only do the fabtech 3" , if not put in the body ( dont like that at all ) The noise happens when you drop aff like if your going on a road and it drops like a couple of inches then when the truck rebounds it hits the stops . That will happen with the spacers also ........

Message: The 2" coil spacers will allow for more downward (flex) travel than the 3" fabtech lift. downward travel is very important to me, and I don't want to go to 1" of downtravel with fabs lift. That just wont cut it. My other question I guess is, is it going to damage the frame when the suspension keeps slamming the bumb stops? The trails I ride are pretty bumpy. I like bajaing my truck (I wish).

Message: If you go and look at your trucks spring housing , the top part side is where the arms top off to .I don't think your understanding the travel part of it . I have 3" more downward travel if you put a 2" you'll have 2 more . The spring housing and arms a remade with angles to fit a longer spring and get the most amount of lift . With the stock arms you'll get the 2" more with the spacer but you'll still top off . You're not going to bottom out , wich is your downward travel , your rebound travel is less ( up after a bump or miss level ground ) cause you put in a longer spring or spacer or whatever ..... With both you'll get the same , only with the fab you'll get 3" and probaby less problems with alignment and better ride , no spring compressed in the fabtech ...............The same goes for chevys fords anything lifted 2wd You should see some trucks the arms rest on the spring housing , on ours it still has about an inch of up travel , plus it will get better as the springs sag from use .......................
