Subject: Pro-Comp vs BF Goodrich

Message:
I am about to get new tires on order and i am stuck between the Pro-Comp AT and BFG AT.
The Pro-Comps have a 50k milage warantee wile the BFGs have nothing.
The Pro-Comps are slightly cheeper but i never see anybody with them.
The BFGs seem to have a much more aggresive pattern and i would really like that for the mud and snow i play in fairly often. I was even thinking about going for the Pro-Comp muds or the BFG muds but if they are going to wear out way to fast i dont think it will be worth it.
Any reply would be great.
Thanks

My buddy has a 4x4 shop. he sells pro comps all day long. I asked him about it because Im gonna take off my 33s and go to 31s. I asked him. He said that the pro comps are great tires and so are the BFG. He told me most people look at the tread pattern over the price. He told me to get some Pro comp ATs since I do 99% of my driving on road

I have 265-70-16 BFG A/T and I just Love them.
I do 75% on road and 25% off road. These tires work very well on ALL types of surfaces. The BFG has a 3 ply sidewall and pro-comp only has a thick 2 ply sidewall. Both tires are good, but the BFG has a more aggressive look.
I would go with BFG, just my 2 cents.

I have the procomp all terrains and I'm fixing to roll about 45,000 miles on them. I rotate every 5000 miles so they have lasted well. Mostly freeway/city and some offroad. They do very on dry pavement but in the rain they are a little slick because of the hard compound. Since I live here in TX I don't know about the snow. My tires were the 32x11.5.15 on stock 15x8 wheels and they have a little side roll on them because they are only 2 ply like "Kindig" above mentioned.

I'm NOT going to buy the procomps again....but to each their own. I've had the BFG before and I like them better but they are a heavier tire and throw rocks like crazy and also cost a little more.

I was thinking I'd try the bridgstone dueller or go back to the BFG this time around cause I'm due for new tires too.

Can someone that has owned a set of BFG AT's for a long period of time say how long they last with regular rotation. I have heard that the mud terrains have lasted up to 50000+ miles but havent heard anything about the all terrains.

I have the A/T Pro-Comps on my ride and expect to get at least 45k out of them. They're wearing very well with regular rotations. That being said, I will never buy another set of them. With the hard compound for long life, I find them very skittish on bumpy roads in wet weather, and only slightly better on dry roads. I'm going to go with something else in the spring, but haven't decided on what yet.

I had a set of BF-G A/T's on another truck and went 48k with regular rotations.

It's not very common to see mud terrains lasting 50k+ miles. I had bfg mud terrain and they were half worn when i sold them. I had about 14k miles on them at that time. I can't really compare pro-comp with bfg since i have no experience using pro-comp's tires. But i do know that bfg all terrains are the only tire besides Blizzaks (or whatever it's spelled) that are rated for winter use (snow and ice). BFG also has a new program called the AAP(adventure assurance program)stating that if you get stuck or stranded somewhere with bfg (all terrains or mud terrain) tires on your vehicle, you dial the number on the card they give you and they will pay for a tow truck to assist you. That alone, would make me pick bfg's over anything.

that's the link to the AAP program. Check it out.

I had a set of 35 BFG on my 89 GMC 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive and they lasted about 80 000 miles. Yeah I double checked my mileage I wrote down. Basically all I did was rotate every oil change and made sure they were at the right PSI.
BFG may cost more but the all terrain lasts a long time. I currently have a set of Mud kings and they have about 25 000 miles on them and are about 1/2 worn. If I can get another 25 000 out of them Ill be happy since they are mud terrains
I dont think you can go wrong with BFG, but I do see a ton of trucks here in Cali with Pro comps on them also

I have 33" BFG AT's with 35,000 miles on them and they have only worn out to about half way. My dad has 32" BFG AT's on his Toyota and has put 65,000 miles on them, and he will get at least another 20,000 out of them. I think that it's a great tire for the off roader that spends more time on the road than off the road. If I don't move up to some muds, I will buy the AT's again.

The pro comps also have an all-weather rating which allows you to drive with no chains in snow. I've owned the bfg's and currently have the pro comps on my 00 dak 4x4. Both tires are great, but I prefer the pro comps. They seem to have better road manners and wear better. Just personal preference I guess.

I have 165,000+ miles on my 1999 dakota and am on 2nd set of BFG ATs. My first set saw 80,000+ and I still had 1/3 tread. They are now spares. I am a contractor and have never had issues with punctures or traction. Check around for prices though! I bought them at Sam's club for 440 installed for 31 X 10.5's. I had to order them though and it took 3 days to get them. Worth the wait!

I had a set of 31x10.5 BFG on my lifted grand cherokee. I put 45,000 miles on the tires before I traded it in for my Dakota. (they still had 1/2 tread left) Best damn tires I have ever owned. I will be getting them soon for my Dakota. There was never a place I would not go because of worring about my tires. They always got me out. Great traction on and off road. Spend the extra $ it will be well worth your investment.

The new super swamper Trxus STS's can't be beat as an AT tire. They are sipped, pinned for studs, and very quiet. They out preform every AT I saw off road.
