Subject: Broken Leaf Spring

Message:
I have a 2000 4.7 ext. cab that was making a strange noise while driving. It only was noticeable when I hit a hard bump (i.e. speed bump, pothole). It turned out to be a broken leaf spring on the passenger side, the second leaf from the top cracked in front of the mounting point on the axle housing. It looked like the leaf was never a solid piece to begin with from the marks on it. It only had a few clean points where it looked like it snapped. For now I just removed the broken section to stay sane without clunking noises, but am going to the dealer to try and have it replaced because this should not happen. It only has 41k on it and has never been abused, only used for its purpose. Has anyone else had this happen? It seems real strange and haven't found anyone with a similar problem. Maybe check your rear leafs if you can’t find out where your squeaks and clunks are coming from.
