Subject: Exhaust Exits IP: Logged
Message: I've got a '97 Dakota 4x4 not that my truck matters. I'm hopefully soon to be reworking my exhaust. I've gotten a good price for a full Dynomax exhaust from headers to mufflers. Anyway I'm trying to figure out where I want my exhaust to exit my truck. The available options are straight out the back, out the sides behind the tires, out the sides in front of the tires and smokestacks. I've pretty much relieved myself of the straight out the back idea due to loss of clearance when 'wheeling. If I go out the sides behind the tires I'm thinking I should probably put mudflaps behind my tires and would I lose any clearance there? If I go out in front of the tires will I lose clearance? I'm not sure. The coolest looking of course would be the smokestacks just because they're so rare. And it would only be about $75 more to do it that way. But will it get in the way later when I put in a rollbar and Daylighters? Also will it stain and/or peel my paint? If anyone has suggestions that would be great!

Message: I think making the exit before the tires looks realy kool and it rare here in Oklahoma. Everyone here has theirs goin out the back.

Message: not to start an argument or flame war but how are you going to get the stacks to hook up to exhaust on the drivers side,on my 2002 4x4 the gas tank is in the way but your truck would look b*tchin with some dual chrome stacks if it will work!

Message: I was looking at it the other day and I realized it would be really difficult to have it coming out in front of the tires... The gas tank on my truck is just inside the frame in front of my tire so I'd have to relocate the tank or go between the skid plate and tank (which would be really stupid) to have it coming out in front of the tires... Because of that my gas tank must be a bit further back than it is in the 2002. If I had the option in front of the tires is definitely what I would do because I think it looks second best and is most practical. I'm still a bit afraid to have smokestacks... I think I would at least need heat shields behind them to protect my paint. Although I certainly think they would look the most impressive. I'm probably leaning toward having them coming out to the sides behind the tires I'll just have to get mudflaps to protect the pipes from rocks and mud.

Message: If you have a roll pan .. go out the back and go through the pan ... you will save about 5" of departure angle

Message: ugh, Stacks? come on now. well, if your not too interested in fake duals, you could go for one exit before the wheels. If you have a 3" body lift, you could tuck the exhaust up to the body, run it over the frame rail, and through a hole in the bedside, just before the passenger side rear tire. wouldnt have to worry about anything coming into contact with it.
