Subject: How to wire up Hella 500? IP: Logged
Message: I just got some Hella 500 lights and was wanting to know why does the directions say to hook them up to the high beams? All I want to do is to have the switch turn the lights off and on. Can I leave that wire disconnected?

Message: Most folks want the lights to come on whenever the high beams are activated. Which means that whenever you dim your head lights, the driving lights will also go off. That's a good thing.
If you only want a simple on-off switch, that's simple to do as well. Just connect the unused wire to the trigger wire from the main on-off switch on the dash.
If there will be times that you want the driving lights, but not the high beams, then use a SPDT (ON-OFF-ON) switch so that you have the option of doing either. It's a little more wiring and an extra $3, but well worth the effort.

Message: I already had wired a pair of Hella 500's in my explorer,
now I have moved to a Jeep. The thing is I no longer
have the right lengths of wire. What are the specific
types and lengths of wire i need, and also, how do i
make it so only the hella's come on when i want them
on, so i can avoid messing with the high/lo/fog beams?
