Message: I have a 99' Dakota Sport V6 3.9L Reg Cab 2WD, I think the gear ratio is 3.55, I am planning on installing a 3" Rancho Suspension lift with 32" BFG A/T's, Will this slow my truck down considerably? Would there be as noticeable difference if I changed the gear ratio? and if so, what ratio should I run and where would I have that done?
Thank You

Message: I have 32's and 3.55 gears as well. The tires have effectivly made it like I had 3.24 gears. Still not too bad thanks to the torque that the 4.7 makes. I plan on going to 3.92 gears as this will put me back at 3.55 with the 32's.

Message: Cody
What Rancho Lift Kit? I don't see one for a 2wd Dakota. Are you going to install a 4x4 kit on a 2WD?

Message: Please help me out. I just put a 3" body lift, and 33" tires on my 97 V6 4x4. I took it to the dealer to have the gear ratio reprogrammed. They told me that wasn't an option on my truck. What else to I need to change to avoid any problems?

Message: You don't have to do anything. Your spedometer is the only thing that will be off. If you want to fix it get a Superlift Tru-speed for $190. It will fix your speedometer. Our trucks aren't like chevies, chevies have to be reprogrammed or the tranny shifts funny.

Message: actually, that's not true. if you run 33's with 3.55 gears, it's recommended to have it reprogrammed. mine shifted all f#cked up until i had the dealership do it. now it's better, but gears are the only thing that will solve it completly.
check the group buys section, i set up a deal with randy's ring and pinion.

Message: I have 33's with a 4.10 gear. I installed the Abbott Gear Box (not True Lift) and after about a month dealing with the tech rep from Abbott going through the wiring diagrams, we finially fixed it. It's like the truck actually shifts and runs like 33's are supposed to be there stock. The tranny's on these trucks do use speed inputs from the pcm. There's like 4 or 5 inputs from the tranny to the PCM. One of my problems was that I installed the box between the rear differential speed sensor and the ABS system. Don't do this if you plan on using these boxes. It screwed my ABS all to hell. Wire it between the ABS and the center plug on the PCM. If your looking for the right gear size, along with the tires you have, I would suggest a chart that's on 4wheelparts.com. Just my two cents on this subject.
Wouldn't want any other!
