Message: Why were you guys so hard on Dakota202? poor guy, he was dead on! who cares that dana 35s were used in some IFS vehicles?, heck they're even used in Ford Rangers and Explorers up front, but they're still not solid. This is a SOLID FRONT AXLE swap thread, and no dana 35 manufactured for a independant front axle setup would do anyone any good for this type of modification. a dana 35 solid front axle was never manufactured, and even if it was, it would have to be pretty freaking rare, i've sure never heard of one. i can't stand people who don't know what the heck they're talking about, but think they do.

Message: I would like to clarify that jeeps actually do have a dana35 front axle.
If you would like to verify it for your self, run this last 9#'s of my vin to your local dodge dealer (0TC118870) and tell them you want to find out what axle is in this 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a 5.2. They will first tell you that it does not tell them what is in the front, but once they search it hard enough, they will either ask if it has a D44 in the rear, or find it through another link.
When they made this particular modle, they put the D44 in the rear and matched it with a D35 in the front with a reverse spin and 3:73 gears. And yes, it is a typical straight axle.
I verified this through 4 different chrysler/jeep dealers in michigan, seattle and anchorage. I called seattle and anchorage because I was searching the info after my local dealer had closed. Researching the front D35 is how I found this post actually.
I am a little upset that they did this, because it makes it harder to find parts because it is so rare. However, from what I have found, the bearings and all are the same for the front as for the rear. Hopefully I find this to be true once I call Ratech.

Please dont be mad that I revived this old ass thread, I too argued with numerous people of the exsistance of a front D35 aswell.

Message: Your an idiot, get the BOM number off the axel and search for it on the dana site. It is a dana 30, the only dana 35 front was ttb setup found in rangers/bronco 2. They also used the center section on ifs trucks, but no solid axles.
