Subject: tires now, lift later, info??? IP: Logged
Message: 2001 black dakota quad cab 4x4 sport, 4.7 manual special order, otherwise loaded w/heavy duty everything, skid plates, towing/etc.
Need new tires, want a lift, but can't do both, and I drive a LOT!
What size tires (16" rims) could I put on without damaging the truck AND would still look right if I can get the lift done later?

Message: I have 265-70-16 BFG A/T and I'm very happy with their looks and off road performance is second to none. I wanted 265-75-16 but a 2 inch lift was needed. My ground clearance is now 8.5,not great, but better than before. I do not plan on getting a lift kit. Over rated IMHO.
My last truck was a 91 Ramcharger with a 3 inch lift and running 33 BFG. I go off road once or twice a month and the only time the lift came in handy is during water crossings.
That's just my 2 cents.
Good Luck

Message: Bought 285 Goodyear ATS after I got the body lift and I couldn't keep them in balance. They say the 285's are hard to balance, but the 305's aren't. Go figure. Anyway...after 300 miles I took them back and had them take them off and put BFG's on it. They balanced awsome! However, they are louder on the road and they are the worst tire I've ever had for picking up rocks and throwing them. It's the last set I ever buy. just my $.02 boys.
