Message: Hi, Great forum, lots of useful info. I've read through the message boards re: tire size and gotten a lot of ideas. I have a '98 Dak 4x4 5.2 with '01 16x8 rims and wanted to go to a taller tire. Many posts talk of rubbing on frame and fender. Is it the width of the tire (11.5...12.5) thats causing the rubbing? I've searched and found a tire size thats taller but no wider than stock 255/85 16. Dunlop, michelin & BFG make truck tires in this size. I plan on the shackle / torsion bar lift for a little extra height as well. Thanks.
Message: I am running that size in a AT street tire but I have the 3" Rancho lift now. It is narrower than 10.5 and is a bit taller than a 33. You may be able to run this with what you plan to do. You will have to trim some plastic. I ran 33x12.5x15 on stock suspension got some rubbing at full articulation and on the frame.
It is the 12.5 that rubbs on the frame, then the height 33 also causes the rubbing on the front and back of the wheel well. The back plastic will need to be trimmed up about 3-4"'s which is really not that bad. The front Plastic valance will need some trimming as well.
Never late for a Tee time or wheelin with my buddies! Always ready for both!!!
