Message: Go to http://www.4lo.com/4LoCalc.htm to find the difference. There are calculators there that will tell you how far your speedometer is off. The calculator at the top of the page will do that based on the old and new tire diameter in inches. If you don't know the tire diameter in inches, the calculator at the bottom of the page will take a metric size and give the overall diameter in inches.
Remember that you will not be a constant 3 mph off or 5 mph off...the difference depends on how fast the vehicle is moving.
And as a tech tidbit, almost all speedometers read high from the factory. A while back either Road and Track or Car and Driver did a story on the subject. If I remember correctly, across the board Chevys came out the most accurate (but still reading a little high), and German cars were the least accurate (reading much faster than actual speed). I think it had something to do with a law on the books in Germany requiring that a car's speedo can never read lower than the actual road speed, no matter what modifications (i.e. larger tires) an owner might do to the car after purchase.
