I think american racing make the baja's in a 16x10. I at least know they make them in a 16x8 cause i have them on my truck and they look pretty good. Pretty much the same thing as the 589's

click here and look at the wheel speck chart. you'll see the 589's in a 16X10 size.

steve, from the literature i've seen thus far, they make a 16x10 but not in a 6 x 4.5 lug pattern. the site u gave me doesnt list lug patern but i hope you are right. thank you

Brian,

Actually you can change your rim size to a 15. It really won't make that much difference except for how much less rim you will see and how much more tire. I just order a set of 15 x 8 Centerline HellCats with a 4.5 backspacing. I also have 33 x 12.5 GY MTR on order.

I currently have an 01 QC with stock 16" rims.

If his truck is like mine he cant fit a 15. The calipers are 2 big to fit 15's.

brian, try callin' them up and find out if they make a 6 bolt for our trucks. i really didn't dig too deep into it to find out for sure. as for going down to a 15" rim, you might want to measure or do some test fitting before you buy a new set of rims. i was planning on lifting my truck and getting a new set of rims/tires. particularly the 589's. but in 15" cause of better options for tires and such. anway, i found a thread where a guy had factory 16" rims and couldn't fit his new 15" rims on his truck cause of the brakes. i got interested and tried to fit my sister's 15" durago rims on my truck. it was a no go. like 02bigdak said, the calipers are too big. just something you'll want to look at.

Hey all-

Great info about the calipers. I didn't realize that there was a change on the 02 Daks. As far as I know and from what I have read here at dd.com many 01s and older Daks are running 15" rims even when they had 16" stock rims.

yeah , I'm running 15" wheel and mine came with 16" but I'm an 01 and has drums in the rear .....The 02 and above have disc in the rear and they probably changed the brake design from all the problems people were having with their brakes ........American eagle does not make the 589 in 16" you would have to get american racing bajas , which is the same , except the holes are polished and on the eagles painted grey ........

yeah, i talked to a wheel company and (like you said) they said i could not fit 15's over my brakes. So 15's unfortunalty, are a no go. (figures, they're cheaper than 16's too) I hope American racing makes the 16x10 baja but i dont think they do. wish me luck!

yeah, the 16's are more expensive...and the tires to fit on a 16 are more expensive also. and correct me if i'm wrong, but when you go to a 16" rim, won't you have to switch over to that dam metric system? i hate that system of tire measurements.

oh, rivermaniac, my '02 has rear drums. now i'm not sure if it was an option to get rear discs in '02 but i thought that option started with the '03 models. not that it makes any difference here, i just wanted to point that out.

just me , did you try fitting some 15" ?????? Cause from what brian is saying the wheel co told him that , but did anybody try it ???? I switched to 15" but I have drums ..........In 02 they switched to rear discs , thats one of the things that I should've waited .......Just me, do you have a spare like your wheels or is it a steel generic spare ( I think they did that on the 03 ) ...................

the '02 DO NOT have rear discs, only the '03. i have an '02 QC 4x4 and i put 15X10 wheels on it and they fit just fine.

by the way, Weld makes a 16X10 that fits our trucks. in fact, they make it in four styles. call 4wheelparts.com, they can give you part numbers.

ian, what brand wheels & what style did you mount? the company that told me that the 15's wont fit was called Rebel. Maybe it's just they're wheels. If you say you run 15's maybe i'll buy one and see if it'll go. I want the Eagle 589 16x10's . I hope they work. thanks for the info

just curious if the 10" is better than the 8"? assuming the same back space, does that mean the 10" will stick out 2" more past the fenders?

10 better than 8? I guess that's subject to opinion. I much prefer the 10 over the 8. The backspacing differs between the 8 and 10 so it wont be exactly 2 inches toward the outside, but i believe it is less than an inch difference in backspacing.

ok, but now at what point will too little backspacing have a negative effect on ball joints? is 3.5"/3.25" too little?

i have weld SS 15X10 rims. the BS is 4.6. they are within .5" of the AE589 15X8 when the turning arcs are compaired.

if you're doing hardcore wheeling, the 10" wheels are not for you.

How much more ????? on wear ????? Don't know , that's also my question .......I have 15x8 in the 589 and they stick out far , I would not go with a 10" . I also tried the 15x7 589 and It had a 4" backspacing , that's 3/4" in more than the 8 , and the truck didn't look as good , the next day I put back the 8". It may have a negative effect on the bearings, balljoints , but the looks , you can't compare .....I wish I would've taken pictures. The 8" look good and are a deep dish looking rim ..... If you can find last years welds made a 3.62 backspacing ,Which is 3 5/8 and that is 1/2 more than the eagle .......How much difference ??????? For wear I want to know , is 1/2" worth the money ?????? Anybody ???????.....Also with the 10" , if you had a tall lift , I would go for it ........8" less trimming ............

rivermaniac, sorry it took so long to answer your question. i have an '02 with rear drum breaks. it came from the factory with 16" rims. i got under my truck to measure the distance between the brakes and the rims. it looked like it would be close on a 15" rim. so i borrowed the 15" rim off of a friends dakota. it didn't fit. it fit fine on the rear, but it did NOT fit in the front. oh and yes, i just have a regular steel spare tire.

to justme, what kind of wheel did u wheel did you try? the stock or an aftermarket? b-cuz i'm willing to bet each wheel maker's inside pattern is slightly different. I'm goin to order one Eagle 589 in a 15x10 and pray it works. Like you said, to look at the clearance on the stock wheel, it looks like there's more than a 1/2 the whole way around but i wont know till i try.

brian, it was an aftermarket wheel. but if you measured and it looked fine, i guess go for it. when i measured mine, i had less than 1/2" spacing. but i've also seen other '02 kotas running 15" rims.

my only guess is that later on in the year they kicked up the front break size. mine was made towards the end of the production run of the '02s. so more than likely the earlier '02s had a smaller brake set than the newer '02s.
