Subject: Hook Ups IP: Logged
Message: Ok i've only been stuck twice in my whole life but when i was i had no place to hook up to. the only place i found was a metal extention from my frame that was connected to my bumper so i hooked up to that both times, leaving my bumper totally bent and screwed up! i plan to get a tow package (once i stop being lazy) so then i can hook up to that in the back. but what about the front? oh yea i have a 99 dakota slt. anyone have any suggestions???
Thanks

Message: Evan, just a note... Get the plans from
Knobbyman's website... BUT, do as he says
and make a dummy set of brackets out of thin
wood or cardboard to test them first... I had
some made for my '02 but never got around to
putting them on my truck... I went to put them
on my '03, and voila, they don't fit. I don't blame
Knobby at all.
if they fit, email me and I'll sell you mine. I had
them fabbed out of 3/8" steel. I have all the
bolts and the actual hooks themselves.
***Naturally I can't accept liability or anything,
which I believe is why Knobby stopped selling
his brackets...***

Message: Fabbed mine out of 1/2" steel. In my opinion 3/8" isint heavy enough, but that's just my opinion.

Message: Bill,
3/8" is plenty strong enough to do what they're
doing now... Which is sit in a box... ; )
Knobby's plans originally suggested 1/4" if I
remember right. *I* thought that was too thin!
The 3/8" seems pretty strong. It's thicker than
the frame section it bolts to, that's for sure. I'm
sure your 1/2" are that much better, of course.
I figured if the brackets won't do me any good,
I'd see if they'd help someone else out.
