Subject: Extending an Axle?? HELP! IP: Logged
Message: hey yall whats up. i know yall are all about youre dakotas, hell i know i am. but i just bought a 77 CJ jeep. ive got some 38 swampers im gonna but on er, but i was wondering if anyone on here knows how to extend an axle? i wanna extend both front and back by about 8 inches. i know it can be done.. i just gotta figure out how. thought one of yall might know.. thanks!

Message: The easyest way to do that would be to go out and get yourself a set of fullsize axles out of a chevy. To me thats the only way to go, you could go to a machine shop that deals with drivetrain and have them press a set of fullsize tubes into your housings and use your knuckles. But then youd have to have them machine the shafts from the fullsize to fit your diff, but it would be a LOT cheaper and easyer to just get the fullsize axles and have the spring perches welded into the right spots. Plus those stock axles suck if your gona run big tires and wheel the rig. later
