Subject: Steering stabilizer location IP: Logged
Message: I have an 88 4X4 and a Rancho steering stabilizer shock that supposedly will go on it. Where exactly does it connect? My truck, besides having slightly larger tires, isn't otherwise lifted. Thanks!!

Message: I have one on my truck. The shock is just a basic RS5000, but you will need the bracket kit from Rancho (sold separately) in order to attach it.One bracket mounts to the front crossmember, the other end of the shock bolts directly to the steering linkage-you will see an extra hole if you look.

Message: Thanks 92Dak! Yes, I saw the hole and figured it came into play, but there are no application instructions other than to say to just swap out the old shock with the new. My Haynes manual, usually pretty intructive, only states that some models come equipped with a steering damper, but fail to even show it. Thanks again!

Message: Your best bet is to contact Rancho direct-most likely no one stocks this bracket kit-i waited 4 weeks from a vendor, who had to order it from Rancho anyways-i beleive it was about $25

Message: Hey Joe E. I will get some pictures saturday of the install (will have the truck on a lift) and send them your way, maybe you can see if it'll work? If you have that extra hole in your steering linkage you're halfway there!

Message: Joe E., UH-oh! I think you have rack and pinion steering on your 2wd, right? If so, I think you're out of luck.

Message: I will still send the pic,but it's basically impossible, since your steering rack doesnt move left to right like the 4wd setup, only your tie rod ends move, theoretically you could make something, but you would need two shocks, one for each side if you know what i mean........

Message: Joe E, your truck should be recirculating ball, not R&P steering. You should be able to add a stabilizer.

Message: I have a '97 4X4 with a body lift. Has anyone found a steering stabilizer that will fit without having to go to a suspension lift?
Thanks in advance...
