I know how all of ya'll feel too. My '00 ext. cab really wants a lift of 5 or more inches. To hell with rack and pinion steering!! I need a lift!! I did hear that maybe by the end of summer, there is going to be a lift for the 2000 and newer Dakotas. I heard this from a local lift shop. Until then, we all get to play the waiting game.

They told me that yesterday. I know it may be common practice to not specify a release date - (I work in the software industry) so they may just be covering their butts, but I hope not. I really bought this truck with the intent of lifting it and taking it offroad. 2001 Jeeps already have 8" suspension kits out for them. Gimme a break.

Same here. I really want that 3 inch lift and 33's. I hate the fact that aftermarket companys seem to come out with stuff for everyother vehicle out there the day it hits the lot but we are stuck waiting a year or 2 for things for our trucks. Hope they are just stalling and get it out soon.

This weekend I will find out if there is any hope for all of our trucks. I'm going partying with some guys that are known to make lifts totaling at least 10 to 30 inches for trucks. I'm gonna see what these guys say about my truck and what they can do. If all turns out well I'll be back on here next Monday with extremely good news. Until then everybody have a great four of july weekend.

That'll be the day, Jeff! lol

Near the same price for a Wrangler as I paid for my quad cab? Give up the 5.9L V8? All the extra room? Power windows/locks? All that good stuff?

You must be nuts!! hehehe

I was able to go anywhere the Jeeps went on the sand dunes Sunday. I don't see what the big attraction is to Jeeps. They are WAY overpriced for what you get. Only benefit is the ability to remove the top, doors, and lay the windshield flat. Nothing I couldn't do to my quad cab with the help of a sawzall....hehehe ;o)

p.s. I don't see the sawzall coming into play with the Dak though...I like 'er justttttt the way she is.

Guys, I think you are forgetting here that this isn't a problem with the lift manufacturers. Dodge screwed us by going to IFS and R&P steering on the front end. They did that for better road manners but screwed us for towing and lifts. When you have a solid axle it is MUCH easier to build a lift. The design issues right now on the new Dakotas all come down to safety and liability...so I myself don't mind waiting a little longer to know the thing won't come apart under me while I'm doing 75mph down the interstate.

I have a Buddy with an Older Dak that could not find a lift for it, so he cut off the front A arms and welded leaf spring mounts up front. Did a leaf spring lift both front and back. Ive Been hunting with him in some narly rocky terrain, and it handled awsome. Of course he removed the torsion bars.

The reason why so many other OEM's have stuff for their trucks when they first come out is not only because of the aftermarket companies ability to sell but also because certain OEM's release their prints and design to the aftermarket companies in order to let them make kits and performance parts for the trucks/cars before the hit the streets. It's kind of like a marketing thing. People look and say "hey look at all that stuff for this truck but this one has nothing." Ford did it with the focus thats why if you look at that there was tons of stuff the first day they hit the lots and in many cases even before they got there.

Just wanted y'all to know, there seems to be two Jeff's on the board. I wrote the original post. The other Jeff wrote the post about selling your rig and buying a Jeep :-). I think I'll post mine as JeffRedmond my name and city.
Although I own both, and love them both, they're apples and oranges.
Blizzard, there are a ton of places I wouldn't take my truck where I'd take my YJ. The short wheelbase helps too much when you're crawlin' up a mountain. Its 4 liter ho has everything short of a supercharger done to it. It moves those 33x12.5's like you wouldn't believe. Don't get me wrong, I love my QC. But I bought it to lift and be pretty. Hell, I installed a DVD player in the thing. :-). But there's no comparison when wheelin'. You're right though, the truck's got some serious get-up and go compared to the wrangler.
And KerryL, yes the Rack 'n Pinion steering and other things screwed us on a lift, but there are just too many more options out there for Jeeps and Chevys before they're even out. I think my Dodge is just too nice a truck to take where my YJ goes. They're both black, shiny, and beautiful but I paid a ton more for my Dodge.
I'll probably start wheelin' it when I get a few more scratches on it.
Oh, and one more thing...Somebody get me a Suspension lift!!!! :-)

Take care guys. :-)

Jeff, If you are in a big hurry, You can change your front end. Check this out:
http://outdoorwire.com/4x4/feature/99dakota/solidaxleswap/
This guy replaced his front end because his after market lift would keep breaking durring mild off-roading. You could do something like this for the same cost of installing an after market lift and end up with a beefier front end. I also saw another site where the guy did the same thing with coil springs. Im seriously considering doing something like this to my Dak.

Really!!! Wow
10" just isn't enough though because I am going to make a 12" lift from all the bad parts knobby got from truckin suspension. Stack 3 4" lifts together BAM 12"
And for the rear I'm gonna get this guy in Texas to chop off my leaf spring hangers and move them closer together to make my sprinds more U shaped thus 12" of rear lift.

I also heard performance accessories is coming out with a 3" body lift...I hope someone tries it out and lets me know how it works.

JJ.. Whiplash already has one. I talked to a local 4x4 shop and they are installing a whiplash kit right now. They HATE IT. The instructions suck and they don't recomend taking the truck off road AT ALL EVER! the parts aren't solid.

The only other Suspension kit out for the 2000+ 4x4 crowd is the Truckin-Suspension kit which I'm putting on my truck as we speak.. But my truck is going to be down for at least another week and a half.

Thanks for the info.. at least you answered the post. Ignore Tom thumb.. everyone else is starting to.
