Message: I have a 2000 QC 4x4 5.9 and I have a 3" Rancho lift on it and I would recommend it.
First question...is yours a 4x4? If not, I don't think you will be able to do the Rancho kit.
If it is a 4x4, then I would recommend the lift, but I would probably advise against installing it yourself. I did my own install, but I am mechanically inclined, have a lot of experience and had a buddy help me (he is a professional mechanic). After doing it once, I would probably not do it again as it took about 20+ hrs to do in a driveway. Keep in mind I had all the tools I needed and an expereince person to refer to when I had a question.
If you choose to do it, you will need or I would highly recommend you have:
a second set of hands
2 good jack stands
2 floor jacks. (you could do it with one, but the second comes in handy on the rear block install)
Air tools and compressor, including a good impact wrench.
Metal cutting tools such as a pnuematic cutter or torch
a good set of 1/2 sockets, socket extensions and a good set of wrenches
a breaker bar
These were the main things that I used and that you may want to make sure you have available. There are others things that you will need, so make sure you refer to the install instructions. You can get a copy of them at: www.performancelifts.com
