Where would I hook up a tow strap on a fully stock QuadCab 4x4, without tow hooks that wont do any damage in towing from the rear and the front? Can anyone help me out?

If your towing something from the rear, I found two large holes in the frame just before the tire, works great with tow straps that have hooks. I have towed a 4Runner and Tacoma using those holes in the frame. But up front, i have yet to get towed so I could help you there.

Installing a class 3 or 4 tow hitch in the back with a D-ring adaptor would be a better choice than using the frame holes

Well, I do think thats a good idea, the tow hitch, but right now I'm a little short on the cash flow so I'm gonna have to do without for the time being. I have been planning on getting one though, I'm just not in a big rush. The serious towing is done by my Ram.

Tow hooks for the front come pretty cheap when you don't get them from the dealership. Most automotive store should have them or check at a tractor supply store. Just find someone to weld them up or drill and use grade 8 bolts and your set. It really should cost much at all and will be worth a lot more to ya when you really need them.

Unfortunatly the front frame rails of the daks are not very conductive to having tow hooks attached. Also the way the bumper mounts is a problem. Myself and a few others have been working on a way to put on front tow hooks for about 8 months now. Still havent came up with anything but I have a couple of new ideas that I am bouncing around.

Thanks guys, and if you come up with anything that works let me know! So if you want to tow yor Dak out the mud then you'd have to do it from the rear huh?

You might also want to think about a front receiver from Warn. I've been thinking about getting one for my 2001 Quad Cab, I'm not sure on the price though.

I have thought about that also but no one has a front receiver out yet for the 2000 and up Daks. The one that Warn has is not just the front receiver but us part of their Transformer system. Its a receiver built into the transformer grill guard. This would be a good setup though if you want a grill guard as well. I have another guard though that I am going to use so it wont work for me, but if anyone else is interested that is an option.

Well as I posted on another page I had the factory hooks installed on the front but they just seem to bolt to the frame and there are two lower plate brackets on the bottom that don't attach anywhere. I never really looked closely at the installation until after the first time I used them. The first tug nearly removed the entire front end of the truck. The bumber assembly pulled up tight against the lights etc and was very close to doing major damage. Luckily was able to have dealer put things back in place but tow hook assemble is now off and am still trying to figure out a way to reinforce it to be able to use it. Any suggestions?? Dodge better come up with a better setup than that for a 4x4 towhook! Far too much leverage on hook and drastically weakens point it fastens to on the frame

Earlier it was said to use Grade-8 bolts I would have to recommend against this.. They are brittle and can't handle the abuse of jerking that usually happens when you are pulling someone. If you use Grade-5 it uses a softer metal and doesn't have a problem w/ the jerking when you are pulling on something. But.. that's just my recommendation.

just the other day a friend of mine got his z71 stuck in sand at the beach.....i pulled him out in using those holes on the framed you all were talking about......i was wondering if it would make a difference if i pulled him out in reverse and attatched the tow strap to my front grill guard???? does the power of the truck make a difference in drive or reverse??...just out of curiosity because i'd rather use my grill guard since i don't have any tow hooks or anything like out friend bryan....

I'd becareful using a grill guard. I don't know how strong it is or where it bolts to. I also don't think it matters going forwards or reverse.

1st gear is a bit lower than the reverse gear in manuals and auto's, so you will have a bit more torque going forward in first than you will in reverse.

My grill guard is bolted over the bumper mount bols, so it is attached right to the brakets holding the bumber which is in turn mounted to the frame as is the way with most grill guards, im really gonna have to get some pics of my truck up for references, as soon as i get the lift blocks under the back, it needs to go up about 1-2 inches so i can crank the torsion bars back all the way up

so depending on where your guard is bolted to it should be relatively strong
