Subject: Tow Hooks IP: Logged
Message: I have an 02 QC 2WD, but want to install the tow hooks found on the 4WD models. I called the Dodge house and they cannot find a part number for the hooks and as a result cannot sell me a set. I know there has to be a part number somewhere that will reference these hooks.
If you 4WD owners could look at your window stickers or direct me to a reputable aftermarket dealer for front end tow hooks I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Message: This issue has been kicked around alot. DC does not offer any sort of tow hook product for our trucks that any one can find, nor to my knowlage is there any after markets made for our trucks. Someone on this fourm has said that one of the Chevy products will work, but I'm not sure which. I have fabbed my own out of 1/2" steel that bolts to the inside of the frame opposite of the bumper mounts and protrude out through the two holes in the facia.
I used a piece of thin cardboard to make a template that I refined to the size and fit that I wanted, them transfered that to my steel. I removed and installed the bumper several times for measurement and fit, and location of holes to align for proper results.
Be patient and take your time, and you will enjoy the results.
Good luck, Bill

Message: HiHo Silver.. I have a template of the tow hook brackets that I was selling and no longer have any sets of them. But you can still make the brackets using the blueprint I have posted. Make sure you measure YOUR truck before actually manufacturing those brackets.

Message: Thanks Knobby,
It's SilverQC that is trying to put his together.
Also Knobby, I have to thank you for the insperation for the idea, I used your design idea for a starting point. I downloaded your drawing and went from there.
I have yet to test my hooks, but believe they will hold up, if they dont, I have bigger problems anyway....
SilverQC, I purchase my hooks from my local Walmart or auto parts store to bolt to the steel plate.

Message: Thanks for all the info guys! It sucks that Dodge will sell you a set with a new truck, but leaves the rest of us hanging in the wind.
Where does Dodge get the OEM tow hooks on the 4wd's?
I purchased a set from Wal-mart as well and mounted them to the rear receiver. I have to say I am displeased with the mounting options on the Dakota frames.

They don't have any OEM for the Dakota. The Ram has them but the GenIII Dakotas never have.

Message: Dodge does have OEM tow hooks for the Dakota, but they are designed only for mounting on the rear, not the front. Go to the Dodge website and select "Build your Dakota".

Message: Those don't count ..
That's a hook that fits into a reciever hitch..
So really it's the reciever that's bolts to the frame..

Message: The site has changed since I ordered mine. It used to be a set of two hooks that mounted on the rear and where attached to the frame.
However, when I went back and looked today, I noticed that if you go to "build your dakota" at step six you can hit "add mopar accessories" and then select "carriers and cargo hauling" from the drop down menu you will see a single, receiver mounted hook. Now cursor over the yellow question mark and you will see front, frame mounted hooks. Any checked into these???

Message: I'm new to the board but thought I'd throw in my two cents. I put a set of Mopar Tow Hooks on my 98 Dak 4x4 about 3 years ago. The Moapar part number was p/n 82204668. I don't know if it would work on an 02...but at least you have a starting point. I'm not sure whether or not there is any difference in the frame/bumper mounts from 98 to 02.
Here are two links (page 1 and 2) of the install I did. Hope it gives you some ideas:

Message: The 2000+ trucks with rack and pinion have different frames. The tow hooks for the 97-99 trucks p/n 82204668 won't fit. Plus, if you have a body lift they hang down too low
