Hmmmm.... read through the instructions briefly and here are some notes:

First, it appears to be a very well thought out kit with very good instructions and pictures.

I will say it seems like alot more cutting, drilling and enlarging of holes to making this kit not so easily removed and the vehicle returned to stock like I had thought. Oh well I guess it will have to stay with truck when it's time to upgrade to a newer model.

Suprisingly, for just 3" of lift, I noticed that the tranny gets lowered and you have to do some cutting off and drilling of the mounts to add drop brackets, I am not to fond of having tranny mounted to drop brackets instead of frame direct, not to mention mostly irreversible cutting being done. It would seem that since the tranny is attached to the engine this wouldn't work, maybe I am just reading it wrong? I am sure they must have had a good reason for lowering tranny? right? It is the first suspension kit I have installed that required lowering tranny, but it will be the first Dodge one I have done too. I am used to lowering front axle/diff, just not tranny lol.

I am still doing it myself, just guess it will take a little longer than I expected to install, better plan a weekend IF you have the right tools and place set up to do it, otherwise an extra day if you need to spend time running for stuff(shouldn't if you have instructions lol).

Sup guys - I've been a frequent visitor, but this is my 1st time posting =)

I've been keeping close eye on this thread, because I too have been very anxious for a suspension lift for my 2001 Quad Cab Dakota. I'm quite excited on the news for the kit FINALLY being released. I'll have to visit my 4WheelParts store here in CO tomorrow and get my name on the waiting list.

However... what's the deal about the exhaust modification?

"No exhaust modifications necessary on vehicles equipped with 4.7L and California emissions. However all vehicles equipped with the 4.7L Non-California Emissions and all 3.9L and 5.9L engines will require modifications to the exhaust."

What exactly is a Cali emission? I had plans to install a Flowmaster exhaust, but I was waiting until after I had a suspension lift. Hopefully having an exhaust installed at the time of the suspension install should make things co-exist much eaiser.

Wildhawk, good work on the group buy and information research! =) Would you mind shooting the PDF install instructions to me as well? AvsFire@hotmail.com is my address.

Thanks!
-Ty

Ok, the group buy is still on, but Rancho has again thrown a wrench in things. Apparently they are giving Central a hard time about drop shipping the orders to each purchaser. So, Central will still be offering the same price, but they will have to collect several orders, have the whole lot sent to Central and then Central will ship them out to each customer.

May take a bit longer, but $1385 total is still the best in town. (At least one place we all are familiar with just raised their base price to $1399 which does not include the RS9000X's or shipping like Central does.)

I forget the name of the other company that put out a lift for the 2000 dakota, but they made them in 4.5", 6.5" lifts I think. Anyway, did those require the tranny mounts to be modified? This is definitely the biggest project I am going to attempt on my truck, so hopefully the directions are good idiot-proof. Let me know what everyone finds out about the install.

I just put in my order w/ Rich at Central. Nice guy. Sounds like we shouldn't expect to have these in our greedy little hands for about a month. I don't care. I've waited 9 months already, I can wait one more. That gives me time to daydream.

How many people do we have in on the group buy now?

Is everyone going to run 33's? I'm sticking w/ 32's. It's going to be sweet sitting eye to eye w/ full size trucks!!!

Got my lift from Central also, as long as I see it by April I won't complain, just plain lousy winter weather here anyway right now and I should wait until spring to put it on.

I HATE RANCHO!!!!!!!!!

Since Rancho had originally told me that the kit I ordered would ship around 2/22, I decided to call them today and confirm that. THEY HAVE PUSHED BACK THE DATE AGAIN!!!!!!! Now they are saying the beginning of March, but they wouldn't even give me a new date. I honestly cannot believe a company with customer service this poor is still in business. I really hope the quality of this kit is worth all of this...

If only someone could actually provide both quality and service together, they could run the aftermarket business.

BLAHHHH...Thanks for letting me vent...

Ian I think those are harsh words but I think what Chad has to understand is that we are looking for a Lift that was built to perform Off Road not for looks. It was clearly stated by Truckin / AIM that their lift is not built to enhance the off road handling. Rancho clearly states that theirs is to enhance the off road handling.

SO if you want a looks lift buy Truckin / AIM. If you want a solid lift, until someone else comes out with one, Rancho is the only one so far.

Enough said about the AIM / Truckin Suspension lifts. Geez they had to drop their original name so we would not recongnize that it was the same lift and a few have fallen for it but were glad to be told that they are one in the same and changed their minds.

Enjoy your lift Chad! It works for you obviously!

I won't hesitate to test out my new lift and get some air, just not like dweishaar! lol. I'll try to keep the nose up, otherwise, no lift may survive that situation. Put a TS lifted Dak next to a Rancho lifted Dak and my money would be on the Rancho kit being in one-piece after a hard day of play. I choose to wait another year for a lift I could count on not all together destroying the value of my Dak if just on name brand alone. To each his own.

As you may have noticed, I was contacted via this board, by Rancho this morning to discuss the status of my order. I spoke with a Rancho spokeswoman via E-mail (2x) and via telephone and my faith has been restored in customer service!!!

Not only am I impressed that Rancho is monitoring this board, I was very impressed with the quality of service and amount of time spent working with me.

I was told that the shipping hold-up has been caused by a secondary supplier that Rancho uses to provide certain components to them and that Rancho is shipping kits out as these components become available.

Fortunatly, I placed my order on January 31 (I was approximately order #18) and I have been told to expect the kit to arrive this Friday or Monday!!!!! It's starting to feel like Christmas!!

Rancho has in fact shipped a large portion of the initial orders that were placed in January. For the remaining orders placed in February, the kits are being shipped in the order they were purchased. It is possible that if you placed an order at the end of Jan. very begining of Feb. that you will be recieving your order in the very near future.

The contact woman I have been working with has promised to continue to monitor the group buys situaton and to keep in contact with me regarding the group buy in general.

Hope this news helps to restore faith and raise the spirits. I know it's worked for me.

That's cool Wildhawk that they are paying attention to their customers, I expected as much from a company as reputable as Rancho, despite the availability issues going on right now, it will be worth the wait, for me almost two years... My order prolly went in on 2/6 or 2/7/03, so maybe I'll see mine soon too, keepin my fingers crossed for delivery by end of month or so. Wish I had all the parts in my hands right now so I could spread them out and get to work:) My 35's are begging to be used and abused and how can I say NO? lol.

Wow!!!! How much more contradictory can you get. Here is the e-mail I just recieved regarding the orders. Now I ordered mine the day after they released the initial release date and nothing. Now I ordered through good old 4 wheel parts so I prolly will be lucky to see it by Christmas. I just think it is interesting that they just sent this message to me yesterday. This e-mail says they are still working on it, or implies it I should say.

Chris,

Thank you for your interest in Rancho products. I apologize for the
delay
on the release of the Dakota kit, however the Dakota suspension kit has
required extensive work in the design of the kit which has taken more
time
to complete than originally anticipated. The kit is currently being
packaged and we will be filling orders by the first of March. I
apologize
for any and all inconveniences you have experienced due to this delay.
For
further information on Rancho products contact a distributor in your
area.
