Does anyone know if there is a conversion or something or somewhere you can hook 2 batteries for our Dakota's?

I am gonna add on board air and with the winch I figure I will need the extra power.

Maybe I'll show you my dual battery set up this weekend:)

I couldn't figure out how to fit both under the hood, so one is in the rear tool box -- which actually works out better, 'cause I have a dedicated circuit waiting for the on-board compressor and air tank.

What's really goin' on?

One yellow top Optima battery will handle an extra load that your winch and air compressor would cause when running at the same time. A high watage alternator will keep every thing powered a idle.

I was thinking if you move the spare tire, the space under the bed would hold a battery, compressor, air and water tanks inside a mud proof box. It can bolt to the frame like the spare tire. You know your front end is already heavy enough, move some weight to the rear, over that locker!!!

Get an optima, get the yellow top if you can afford it. Mount it where your air filter box was originally.
Painless wiring makes a kit where you can run the truck off of either battery or both at the same time.

Thanks for the help guys!

DJ I did not know you put a compressor on your truck. But I do not have the tool box or really want one.

Craig,
Thanks for the info. Guess I should have talked to you guys this last weekend about it!

I was thinking the same thing about the Air filter box. But what do I do for filtered air? I get allot of water slpash up into the engine comp. Craig this last weekend had problems with his K&N filter getting wet.

I have a AC Delco battery I bought to replace mine but after doing some battery maint on the old one I found it to still be good. I talked to my mechanic about it and he is going to do the install when he puts on the lift the first of Feb.

You can get an aftermarket cold air intake with the K&N filter and then buy the outwears perfilter for it. They sell them at any performance shop (summit, jegs, truckperformance) its a special material that wont let water through. I've used them in the past. You can actually take a piece of that material and pour water on it and it will hold it like a bowl, then you can take a stray and blow from underneith and air bubbles come through.

I use outerwares on my dirt bikes and quads. I saw a R/T guy with the traditional round filter right on top of the engine. This would free up space ware the air box is. The water got splashed up by the fan and only hits the front 1/2 of the engine. This is why I got water on the K&N because I have a FIPK and removed the sheild when I put the body lift on. The engine dropped 3" and the holes did not line up with the tube.

Craig,

Man I got allot of mud splash up in the engine from last weekend.

Can some one hook me up with the proper link to look at this stuff? The full package, I may just have the mechanic do that sounds like it would be easiest.

Part # SUM-239441 2" tall round air filter is about the cheapest route. measure around your throttle body to be sure a 14" diameter filter won't hit anything.

Also look at the "air-raid" intake at truck performance. It uses a conical K&N.

You could always look under the performance board for the good ole home brew intake many guys make out of plastic pipe and a K&N, that way you can put the filter wherever you want.

Also go to truckperformance.com under air management, "filter wraps and precleaners" to find the pre-filter.

Oh and one more, EBAY. Search for Dakota Intake, there are always good deals there.

Go to you local parts store and buy a cone filter and a piece of 3" exhaust pipe. Cost me $30. You can paint the pipe to match the outside of your truck and use the stock airhat and the rubber angle piece. I routed mine through the inner fender behind the headlight and then cut a small portion of rubber behind the grille. Works great.

I think I an going to put my stock air box back on after this Hollister trip. I have a dropin K&N filter which will work better than my cone filter with a hole in it. Oops, rubbing on metal is bad for a filter.

Or I will get a 3" spacer to go between the throttle body and the FIPK. That way I can use heat/splash shieldfor the FIPK with the body lift on. I think I might make it out of Plexi-glass. But I will still need a new cone filter.
