Well I finally got my scanner working so I now have the picture of my bracket that I made for the tow hooks on my truck. If you want to check it out click on the picture below. But... I am claiming NO RESPONSIBILITY if this bracket doesn't work the way you want it to. Even though this worked on my truck measure your truck or make a piece out of wood first to see if it's going to work the way you want it to. I'd suggest 1/4" Steel for the final product although I think 1/8" will work fine.

Message: I'll vouch for what Knobby says about checking out your truck for proper fit. I got a pair of brackets from Knobby and the passenger side one fit tight and protruded very little from the pre-cut hole in the plactic bumper facia. Enough though to get a tow strap around it and not to touch the bumper. The driver's side bracket was way off to the outside of the vehicle and would not allow the tow hook to be installed as it would not align with the pre-cut hole. I actually had to cut down another bracket to use as a spacer for the drivers side hook (I did not want to use washers for spacers as it would have taken about 4 stacked on top of each other and that would probably bend the bolts due to lack of support if I tried to pull with that hook). That worked great and the tow hook lines up perfectly now. My brackets were 3/8" wide. Haven't had a chance to put them in full service yet but am glad to know I have something up front should the need arise. I would only use them to have someone pull me out and not the other way around. That is why I have rear tow hooks also!

Message: Yea.. to pull someone out I think I'd have to use my new bumper... Just because I can and it'd be cool to show off ;-) Glad cutting that other bracket down worked out for you you don't happen to have pictures do you? I'd really be courious to see what happened.

Message: hey guys, i was reading this thread and went looking for a front receiver hitch for my truck and found front receiver hitches for 00-02 daks from www.hiddenhitch.com the part# is 5018. They have one for 4x4 and 2x4. Also, its pretty late and I'm soon going to bed, and won't be searching for tow hooks/front receiver hitches any more tonight, if anyone knows where to find them for my truck that would save me some time and would be greatly appreciated.
thanx

Message: Only option you have it to fabricate 2 brackets like I have posted above and bolt hooks to that. or get a front reciever hitch.
That's all that is out there.

Message: Anthony / Mud Runner,
A few months ago I bought both a front and rear hitch for my '01 4wd dakota from hitchestogo.com. They gave me the best price I could find on the Internet. Draw-tite hitches for less than $100 each. plus $20 for shipping to a commercial address.

Message: OK, FOR YOU THAT HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THE FRONT TOW HOOK PROBLEM, THANKS FOR THE IDEAS. MY SELF AND A FEW OTHER ENGINEERS THAT I WORK WITH, ARE GOING TO TAKE YOUR IDEA AND RUN SOME CALCULATIONS ON THE AMOUNT OF FORCE YOU CAN PLACE ON THE BRACKET/ BOLTS(IN ALL DIRECTIONS). ALSO GOING TO MAKE SURE THERE IS ENOUGHF COVER FOR THE BOLT HOLES (TO PREVENT SHEARING).

Message: I am thinking about trying to adapt some from Chevy Fullsize. They are pretty strong. All you would have to do is drill two whole in the frame. No welding!!! The hooks I am thinking about use two large bolte on one side and on the inside of the frame you have a re-inforcement that looks like a 1/4 thick flate bar of spring steel, then you place lock washers and nuts on.

Message: In reply to Ian Anderson's question about these having been attempted on a 2002 Dak QCab, I did purchase a pair of brackets from Knobbyman. I had knee surgery, still recovering, and haven't had a chance to put them on yet. BUT, I did get under the front to match the brackets up and it looks like it should line up fine, I don't see a problem. I will update the conversation when I get them installed.

Message: Hi All, Just bringing the subject BTTT. How have Knobby's brackets been holding up? Any issues so far? I haven't had to put mine in to service yet. By the way, I saw an article on tow hooks in the August 2002 issue of Four Wheeler page 103. They stated that Dodge has now come out with a special front tow hook set up including a special crossmember for the Dakotas. Any of you guys and gals tried out this new hardware yet? Just curious is to how it matches up with our homemade brackets? As always, thanks for the input and info.

Message: FM18 that's awesome that Dodge finally got there act together. If it comes w/ a crossmember piece I'd have to take a look at that.
FM18 I don't know if anyone else has used them.. But the one time that I had to it worked GREAT they did shift alittle on the bolts but nothing major.. Just loosened the bolts slid it back into place and tightned them up again.

Message: Bout Time, those are interesting pictures you have on your site. I see you have a 2000 model year. It appears after comparing your pictures and some Knobby sent to me and my on '01 truck that this version would be to narrow in spacing to fit in the cut outs in our '01+ trucks. Is there a seperate unit for the '01+ trucks vs the '00 and under trucks? Looks like a very stable set up to say the least!
Thanks again for the info,

Message: I believe that is a '98. You can tell by the skid plate mounting it is a pre'00. I think the mounting points are a little different on '00 and up but I am not sure.

Oh well, maybe Mopar altered the kit for the late model trucks if the article in Four-Wheeler is correct.

Message: Thanks for the update and corrections on the model year. I guess I will stand by and see if I can find out if there is a new set up for the '01's and up. I hope they did modify the set up for our trucks. I still think it was really dumb not to have this equipment as standard or at least a viable piece of optional equipment in the first place for a four wheel drive vehicle. I am still skeptical as I know how some magazines sometimes grab any info to fill in holes in their articals. I think I will be able to make do just fine with Knobby's set up for the fore seeable future!

Message: FM18,
THis may work for our trucks. The key is the measurments on the mounting. The Pre '00 Skid plates are different looking but the mounting points may the same distance. I think the rest of the setup might be ok.
I have seen a front tow hitch mounted on a Durango. Is this something that may be an option for you. It mounted the same way I think. I am pretty sure it was a Mopar setup.

I should have looked closer before I posted that last post. No way could that work. I beleive it is to wide to mount.
But the Front hitch may work for you still. If you want I may be able to get some pictures of one in a few weeks.
