Knobbyman, did you end up getting these tow hook brackets made at 3/8 thickness? That was your last word but I didn't see you confirm thickness since having them made. Look like they will hold up pretty well? Do the brackets look pretty close to the ones on ayrow's web site?
BTW, to you and Hawkeye, let's split the camera 3 ways and have the Dakota QC scene covered from coast to coast (Hawkeye in FL, you in TX, and me in CA).

db4thrill .. Yes it's out of 3/8" Steel. They are the same as Ayrow has infact it's his design I just doubled checked all the dimentions and made it thicker. I have a PayPall account now so that's how we can do all the billing. About the camera .. COOL now I only have to pay $100 for a good camera ;-)

Wow!
Everybody's talking about me and my design. I didn't even know it until I just found this post tonight.
LOL!

Anyway, I'm glad that I could help you guys out.
Knobbyman has done a good job taking the baton and running with this. Had I known there was so much interest, I might have pursued it a little more myself.
:)

Oh well, maybe next time. Currently, I'm working on a heavy-duty roof rack that will be able to support a ton of weight for hauling lumber, canoes, etc...
I already have something up there that does the job pretty well, but I Want to make something that is more aerodynamic.
I'll post pics of it after I get done welding the first prototype together.

I am also doing a 3" body lift this week or next week, so it should be interesting.

For those of you that have not visited my truck site, you can see tons of pics of the mods I've done at the link below.

Have fun out there!

Those of you who have a front mounted receiver from draw-tite - did you have the weldnuts in the frame that is shown in the installation instructions? My 2001 CC 4wd didn't - so the mounting hardware included with the hitch didn't work. It came with the bolts, but no nuts. I talked to draw-tite - they have never heard of this problem before. I just bought some 1/2" grade 8 bolts&nuts to fix the problem. I just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem.

So does anybody have a pic of the front receiver
online? I tried the link given in earlier posts

I have a 2001 (built May 01)which I just put the Draw Tite hitch on. The hitch was 5/8 of an inch too wide for my frame rails and the entire hardware kit was useless. I called Draw Tite and they said the dimension was correct, so Dodge may have changed the mounting on my model. the holes lined up, so I made (2) 1/4 inch steel plates as spacers and bought some grade 8 1/2 hardware.
I tried cutting the splash guard to see if would fit around, waste of time. I have a 98 factory took hook kit I was going to modify, but the Draw Tite was easier for me. (anyone want to buy?)
Northern Hydraulic had forged Class III hooks.

Ok I have the tow hook brackets in-hand all I need is a camera so I can take some pictures. For all of you that have e-mailed me w/ your address already I am in the process of e-mailing all of you back w/ the shipping cost & the one cost I forgot about the cost of a box ;-) The brackets weigh 5 lbs for the pair of them and will be shipped from D/FW airport via UPS. Just incase some of you wanted to check on the prices your selves. I have a pay pal account and the brackets cost $40 for the pair I can send you the 4 new bolts you need w/ the brackets for a aditional $2 so for all of you lets use california for example. The total cost would be $40+$2+$8 = $50
Brackets, Hardware, Shipping. All you need are the tow hooks which are available @ any walmart or K-mart or 4x4 shop. E-mail me @ knobbyman@yahoo.com include your full shipping address if your intrested in these I'll try and get some pictuers up this week although I work my 2nd job all week :(

So far the cost for the tow hook brackets being shipped w/ the 4 bolts that you need is $56 I haven't seen it above that. That is my cost.. if I can find boxes cheeper I'll send it cheeper but that's the only cost that I might be able to drop down any.

But, that design looks familiar......

:)

I like the thicker steel. I would feel much more comfortable about that thickness than what I cam up with.

At any rate, great job!

Just called the dealership to check on 2000 hooks.
The only ones they show are the ones that mount to the back receiver hitch. So I guess we are still out of luck on the 2000 unless we go with the front receiver hitch.
