Message: I was down at my Local 4 Wheel parts Wholesaler yesterday and in the parking lot was a 2001 quad cab with 35" muders under it. The owner of the dakota was the store manager. He fabricated his own 4" suspension lift and added a 3" body lift. It took him about a month to do it and it was a real pain in the ass! Had alot of problems with the steering. But after all his work, it runs great, steers great and takes an alignment well. So there is hope for the 2001 yet if you got the time and know how..... anything is possible. Good luck :)

I have got to see this.

Will only let you put on 33's but that is exactly what I want. I'm sure that once they get their lift out then others will probably follow as well.

He told me preliminary reports are that it will be about the same as the current 97 to 99 lift, $1,300. There again that is not a definite.

The owner said there are no plans for any suspension lifts for the Dodge Dakota! He said that Dodge keeps changing their suspension every 2 years and it is not cost justified for a company to keep putting out different lift kits. I dunno if this is true? Anybody hear this?

Message: For what it's worth, I spoke with Superlift earlier this year and they expect to have a lift out late-summer/early-fall for the new Daks. Hawkeye also spoke with Trailmaster (maybe it was Rancho?) and they, too, are looking at about the same timeframe.
So says the tech support guys anyway. If it's really gonna happen or not is anybody's guess!

Dear John,
Thank you for your interest in Rancho products. Although we are planning on coming out with a Suspension System for the 2000 and up Dakota/Durango later this year, it is still in engineering and the details are not final. I do
not yet have an accurate release date for a kit but would be happy to send you any updates as they become available.
I confirmed this with a Phone call to them. Last I was told was end of summer, first of fall. I also used to work for a short time at the 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers store here in town and a freind there has also confirmed the same from Rancho. Now that Dodge has gone tot he rack and pinion steering for the Dakotas, you probably wont see any changes in it any time soon. Body maybe, but I expect that the suspension will remain the same.

How much of your lift is actually suspension lift? Looks to be at least a 3" body lift eh? What all was involved in the lift?
Thanks
p.s. And where's your back bumper????? hehehe

Message: Cool deal. Nice pictures Roger, thanks. And thanks for the nice comments - much appreciated after all the work. The kit is basically custom brackets based off the design of earlier Dakota kits. The steering is a Heim jointed, over-the-knuckle setup which keeps the angles decent. The exhaust needed to be modified, the transmission x-member as well. That with the body lift clears 35's with minor rub at full lock and hitting a good bump. It came right into alignment (whew!) and tracks dead straight down the road. The bumper was made by Factory Tubular Accessories of Salt Lake City. They do great work. I'll post a number later - I believe he has a pattern set now. Also has a K/N Filtercharger and throttle body spacer for the 5.9 and a Gibson stainless cat-back - very nice power combo. Currently doing a roll pan and rear bumper (obviously!). Can't leave well enough alone!

Message: I got another email from Rancho saying that they are still moving ahead with their lift for the new Daks and will email me with a release date when they have it set. I am going to give them a little while to get the new kit out but if for some reason they either dont or start taking to long I was thinking of taking the rancho kit for the 97 to 99 Daks and untilizing as many of those parts as possible, and then having s local fab shop make the brakets I need for the stupid steering. I may have to give you a call Scott for some info on how you did the steering. I only want the 3 inches like the 97 to 99 kit does. Just want to put on 33's. 4 Wheel Parts Off Raod adventures magazine had a really nice article where they put the Rancho kit on a 99 cc and put 33's on it with no rubbing. My truck will be lifted!! I will not be denied!!!!

Message: The bumper is definitely beefy and very stout. Factory Tubular could modify the design to work with whatever you have in mind (towhooks, winch, etc.) - that's what these guys do. You'll have to speak to them regarding pricing and options. I liked the fact it gave me the additional clearance for the 35's - and it looks kick ass!

Message: Scott, if your still reading, I am installing a Perf Acc body lift this weekend. Also got some 33x12.50 Pro Comp X-Terrians on black American Racing rims. Did you run into anything unexpected with your body lift? The instructions seem to be pretty straight forward.
Since Rancho finally has their kit coming out, I will give it a little time on the market, maybe a year, to work out all the bugs and then add it with some 35's. Also, I never asked before, what gears do you have?

Thank you for your interest in Rancho products.
The 2000 Dodge Dakota system will probably be
released sometime in 2002.

I am always suspect when someone uses "probably"
and "sometime" in the same sentence. We may
have to get a large group from this forum to
write a bunch of letters to Rancho so this kit
really gets released next year. A written letter
goes a lot farther than a bunch of anonymous
emails...just an idea to flame over.

Message: You know, we have been hearing about this lift possibly coming out since march of this year. I think the major lift suppliers are taking money from Chevy and Ford and maybe dodge needs to step up to the plate here. Within 3 weeks of the ugly chevy avalance hitting the streets here in Dallas, they started showing up with lifts of 6". Granted some of the running gear is from the Truck series but this is rediculous. The kits cannot be that much different than the original 97-99 kits. I say to hell with all of the lift companies and I am going to look at fabricating my own. It will probably end up costing the same since they will probably want $2k for the kit anyway. At least this way, I get to keep the welder and any associated tools along the way which I can then build bumpers, lightbars and anything else I want too.
Good luck to all.
