Message: Im not sure if anyone has tried this one yet, I have noticed that people are having a hard time mounting tow hooks. This is what i have done. First I know that mounting the hooks to the frame is the best way, but you would have to cut big holes in the plastic bumper cover. I found the it easier to mount them to the bumper. I found a good spot by the lower grill opening to mount the hooks, so I trimmed the plastic from the underside of the bumper and bolted them to it. The tow hooks look great and work good too. I got pulled of the riverbar a few days ago with no problem the bumper held fine!!! I think the bumper will work good as long as you dont have to jerk it super hard. Just an idea for you all to ponder.

Message: Anyone got pics of a good setup?
I've seen the one bloke who extended the frame with (I think it was) 1/4 inch steel. Good for straight pulls, bad for side pulls.
Is there room to make a welded frame to attatch to the truck frame that would put the hooks in the bumper knockouts, but be rigid enough for a heavy shot?

Me with my 1/2 thick steel. good for side pull no probleme you need good bolt. I did use 1/2 bolt grade 5. its tuffer than the 8 grade because it can bend side way a litle..
And I think you shoud not welde the plate to the frame. (inspection) in case...

Message: I have the perfect tow hooks and 33’s, finally.
I mounted a standard tow hook to my lower cross member when I first got my truck, after I got stuck. Drilled a hole and used one near large holes for the a-arm bolt holes. I then tried a front receiver and that sucked, way to low and heavy. I looked at every truck I could looking for something that I could adapt to fit. I found that new Chevy tow ½ ton tow hooks work on our 4” frame rail as well. If you got a body lift just drill a hole and buy a long bolt.

What are the holes in the lower fascia for on the 00+ Dakotas if there are not any tow hooks available? Did dodge want to trick people into linking their trucks have tow hooks? And would some one with some, do you think with out a body lift will these tow hooks be close to those holes. I have not had seen one yet to check.

Message: Hey perpetrat how do you feel the towhooks worked on the lower cross member? do you think this is a strong enough place to mount a set of tow hooks? for a gradual pull or snatching?
I don't have a body lift and don't want to cut to much into my bumper or use a bracket? I have yet to figure out a way to mount tow hooks. ugh.
any pics of this setup?

Message: I liked that standard tow hook set up on the lower cross member. I was tugged several times at Pismo in the sand with a 4 quads on a trailer and it held up fine. I got stuck in the mud and the hook was below the mud line. That is what I did not like about that location. Also, one tug from an angle and the metal on the cross member bent. Not bad but the hook was made it look worse.
