Subject: Just got my Dakota, need some advice..

I just purchased my first Dakota! I've owned several Dodges, including a Ramcharger...etc...

It's a 91 4spd auto, X-cab V8 4X4 with 3.92 stock gears, towing pkg, stock lift, and 30" tires. Are the 30" tires the stock size?

I want to get the RPMs down a little since it already has such low gearing and I do only do some towing, so I thought I could throw on some 31 X 10.50 Michelin ATX tires....

Is this possible with the stock lift? I want no rubbing or interfence. And I really don't want a body lift, or the one and only suspension lift, Trail Master suspension lift.

Does anyone know my RPMs with the 3.92 gearing with 31" tires going say 65 mph?

OK, thanks...going to post some more questions...

If I read correct within this board, a 31 would be perfect and would not touch or interfere.....does anyone still know the RPM range?

Do I have to buy the 3 3/4" backspacing on these wheels too, even though I am not lifting the truck.....

I do know the wheels are 6 by 4.5" wheels....I was thinking about getting the weld typhoons in the 15X8 config.....sound ok with 31" Michelin ATX's? Thanks

The formula to figure RPM is:
mph x gear ratio x 336/tire diameter
So now by my calculations, your RPM should drop by about 200 going with 31's.

Sorry, I forgot to add that your supposed to multiply the top line by .68 also. So your RPM will actually only drop by 100.

Hmm, that's kinda weak. I guess 32-33's would be ideal......I might just have to go with the 31's and still have the power in reserve for the towing and hauling you know what.....thanks for the equation as well....
