Subject: axle ratio for 2wd

i have a 2001 2wd auto and want to know if i change my tires to 28" or 30" from the stock will i need to change my axle ratio. I believe the stock ratio is 3.55.

You don't have to with the 235 or 245/70-15's (factory tires). They're a 28 - 28.5" tire anyway. The 30" won't be a problem either...but may be a little bit slower out of the hole for you. Anything larger than a 31" and 3.90:1 gears are in order. I run 32" tires on my 2WD with 4.10:1 gears...this combination keeps the effective ratio (on the pavement) at about a 3.60:1.)
