I don't know if you'd call it a push bar, but I've got the Safari bar on my truck. Good place to mount lights, but I sure wouldn't push anything with it! The brackets it mounts too have slotted holes that slide between the bumper and bumper mounts. Push anything with it and I'm sure the brackets would pop out.
But you might be talking about something else.

I just installed the same one Blizzard has (minus the lights...still shopping around for those) I totally agree that it isnt much of a "push bar" But it looks real sweet and I got it for 120 so the price was right...

I have a Genuine Steel grill guard. Very solid. I would not feel bad about pushing someone with it, carefully of course. It mounts to the frame in 4 places so it is pretty stout. Only $290.

Ordered a Westin Chrome push bar yesterday. Picking it up today around 10am. It has 3" center tubes. I will let you know how it turns out. Try to post some picks too.

Well I got it and it looks cool. It is the Westin Chrome push bar. It have 3" cross tubes. Looks tough! I will try to get some picks soon.
It was very easy to install, bolt on, no drill.

I have an '02 and it was a piece of cake. It bolts on.
I put the front end of the truck up on ramps so I could get under the front bumper. Then I loosened the bumper support bolts and slid the mounting brackets up from underneath just behind the valence. Tightened up the bumper bolts and mounted the bar to the brackets. Their directions say to drop the valence but I didn't touch it because I saw that I could work around it, saved alot of time that way. I even put two extra 1/2" bolts one on each side through the frame where a third slot was cut in the mounting brackets for an earlier style bumper mount for extra support.
But it might be a different story for a different year truck, dunno, but I think the bumper mounts have changed through the years.

If you mean the safari bar, its probably around 20-25 pounds, bar and brackets, then a couple extra for lights, depending on what kind you get. Not enough weight to notice. The larger brushguard types weigh more, but I'm notr sure how much.

I PUT A SAFARI BAR ON MY 93 DAKOTA.THEY DON'T MAKE ONE FOR THIS YEAR,SO I BOUGHT THE BRACKETS AND BAR FOR A 99 UP.I THEN DRILLED HOLES TO MATCH BUMPER SLOTS.NOT THAT HARD TO DO.

i have a Hooker grill guard/push bar and it mounts directly over ove the bumber bolts, actualy mine was more of a pain than it had to be because my bumber was slightly bent and one of the square parts was turning int he hole so i had to drill it out but i got 4 new bolts and working fine, its tough too. Pushed over some small trees with it and i love to see people get too close when they park and put 2 very nice creases in thier bumbers or trunks. I hope i never have to see how it takes a deer or anything else i DONT WANT it to come in contact with.

I have it on and i accidentally gave a chick in front of me a love tap.. Well, a little closer to a raping but no damage and the bar didnt even bend... just the light got pushed up cuz its adjustable.... Realigned the light good to go Was great felt bad hitting her complete accident

yes it will fit but it will be 3 inches lower than stock.
i like the way the top of the bar is even with the bumper after the lift.

Sorry to be resurrecting ancient threads but
this interests me. I was driving to work today
and saw a Westin push bar on a Dak (Any of
you guys on Hoover in southeast Mich. at
about 9:20 this morning? ; ) ) and it got me to
thinking... I have had ZERO luck finding places
to make tow hook brackets for me. SO, what
about rigging and reinforcing something onto
the brackets for the push bar? The bar looks
great on the trucks it's on and I was wondering
(without knowing what the mounts look like) if
it could do double-duty as a tow hook mount of
sorts.
I really like the small look of the Westin bar as
opposed to something larger.

I have the 3" body lift and safari bar, and I just moved the brackets up to the next hole, and sanwiched them in. The brackets don't have holes, they just have cut outs, so making sure the bolts goes through the bracket doesn't matter. After the bolts are tightened, it works just fine. You can't use them as pull points, but you shouldn't have in the first place either. If this doesn't make sense, let me know and I'll try to explain it better.

oregondak, thanks for the info. i think i understand what you are saying. i don't have the safari bar yet so i can't look and see exatly what you mean. how far up did u get it to go? does it look like it would with out the lift?

Almost all the way, it sits maybe 1/2 inch below the top of the bumper, max. It looks good, and increases your approach angle too.

I just looked at the bar again, it actuall sits about 1/8" higher than the bumper, but looks fine, you can hardly notice it's higher.

macman37- not a good idea on the tow hook idea as the mounting brackets have open slots so it wouldn't be safe to put any pressure on the bar in that manner, IMO.

A push bar is called a ( center guard ) . Thats the one with the teeth-like things coming up in the center of the truck. Most of the bars in this forum I have seen pictures of are called ( bull bars) .

with the safari bar did you guys have to cut the plastic shroud that sits behind the valance. i installed the safari bar yesterday and it doesn't seem to fit back in there and i don't want to drive around with it off. all that crap getting up in there.
how does it go back up?
does it need to be trimmed?
or am i just doing it the wrong way?
