hey does anyone know how hard it would be to modify a tuffcountry lift to work with a 2000-up dakota? or is there somewhere that they have done this before

As far as I understand it would be a pain in the @ss because the steering setup in the 1999.5 and up models come with rack and pinion steering I do believe. The 97-99 models come with a pitman arm steering (can't remember what it is called) so you would have to modify the steering components greatly and if it were easy or cheap, then everyone would have the tuffcountry lift on their trucks and Knobby would not have suffered as much as he has. So to answer your question, I wouldn't even recomend looking into it that deeply. If you have the time and the money then more power to you it is a great lift and I have had no problems with it on my 98. If others want to add to this I just thought I would say my piece and let others chime in with what I forgot.

The steering is the only difference.

Get a steering box out of a 97-99 or get an aftermarket one like the AGR and mount it where the 97-99 has theirs. Any good offroad shop should have experience with steering boxes. Most of them have to change or adapt ones for jeeps, scouts, Toyotas and other truck for bigger tires.
Talk to a local shop, it's do-able
