Message: It's a real chore, if you've never done them before, have mechanic do it. Depending on which ones, you ned to unload, remove torsion bars, drill rivets out, press out old ones, etc. Had mine done on my '99 under warranty.

Message: I put on my new Moog UPPER ball joints the weekend of 3/2/2002 which took about 5 hours. After buying a 4 inch grinder and one of those fork looking tools to seperate the ball joint from the spindal I saved myself about $190 and have two new tools. Pep boys quoted $500 bucks to change the upper ball joints. The process was relatively easy just time cosuming to grind off the old joints. I cut the boot off the old chrysler ball joint and nothing but dirt poured out of that thing. The old ball joint was so loose I could just wiggle it. The new moog joints that are greasable I couldn't even budge them. I posted some pictures at yahoo if anyone else plans on doing this. The Moog ball joints are great and no more popping when turing or going over bumps. Here's the web site with the pictures!

I ordered the ball joints at www.rockauto.com and it took about 4 days to get them. $43 buck each.

Message: I had to replace the lower ball joints on my 97 4x4. I don't know if a 99 is the same but it was a real pain. The lower ones were pressed in and I had to use a chisel to knock back the flange and then used a ball joint press to press them out. Then I used the press to put the new one in. The hardest part was getting the front axle half out of the hub assembly. Now like I said, I don't know the differences between a 99 and 97, but I did not have to take off the torsion bars or drill any rivets out. All it cost me was the price of the ball joints(about $70). The ball joint press I rented from autozone. As far as the brand I don't remember what it was but it wasn't moog, which I hear is the best if you want to pay for them.
