Message: I found out for myself, they don't. They would mount too high up in the cut outs that are already there. Actually they don't even come close to the cut outs.
This tow hook thing is begining to piss me off.
The only other options that I'm thinking of is a whole new bumper($1,100) or a R.V. tow mount that has two recievers that come out of the cut outs. My neighbor has the R.V. set up. It looks alright, but I'm not going to want to keep the tow hooks in the recievers all the time.

Message: hey cali
have you seem the diagrams for the drop brackets that allow you to mount a tow hook below the lower valance? they are on here somewhere. We also have a post somewhere around here about a new company making front bumpers with d-rings that runs less than 500 bucks.

I'll look into the bumper. But as for the tow hooks below the valence that will effect my front clearance.

Message: cali,
i worded that wrong. do you have the two holes in the valance that looks as if hooks should belong there? i do in mine, and the brackets allow you to mount a hook perfectly in those holes. it is actually above the bottom of the valance so it shouldnt effect your approach angle at all.

Message: Cali,
I'm assuming that you have a body lift on your truck? If you don't the GM hooks will not work. I have a 3" body lift and the GM hooks. I had to cut some of the bumper valance to make them work. Take a look...

Message: Scott1981,
Yes, I have the holes in the valence. I looked for a diagram of the bracket, but so far I haven't found it yet.
Saharascott,
Nope no body lift here. That's probally why they don't work well.

Message: have you ever considered a front end hitch? that was my solution to the same problem ya'll are having. Draw-tite makes the best one; it bolts in between the frame and the bumper brakets and then down on the cross member. the 2 inch reciever comes out right underneath your valence. its incredibly sturdy and actually has two tow loops aready on it; but if those aren't beefy enough for you you can just get a D-ring shakle for the reciever. the hitch runs just over $100. you may need to do some research to find it for that price, but its still the best solution to the "no tow hooks" problem that all dokatas have.

All I did was type "tow hooks" into yahoo and that came up. lol
I have been considering bolting some heavy duty D-Rings to the front of the bumper. I'm not sure if it is strong enough to handle a tow out from there though? Anyone got any ideas?

Those only fit the 97-99 trucks, not the newer Dakotas.

That site listed them as a Mopar product. I guess you can get them through your local dealer.
The pictures looked like they fit under the valance.

Like the other guy said they fit up to 1999 models. Luckily, mine is a 1999 model!

Message: I have tow hooks on my 02 dakota QC 4x4.
I had a friend of my wife's family (runs his own welding business) fab up something for me.
He didn't have any tube metal handy but made his own by welding 2 L pieces together. He used the tow hooks as template and cut holes for the screws. I picked up some tow hooks from a salvage yard from an old 80s (early 90s i think have same style tow hooks) s-10 blazer. They have a backer plate that has the threads that the bolt screws into. He tac'd those inside of the tube he made so they won't move.
He them welded the tube to the bottom of my frame rails and part of is extends beyond my frame rails toward the lower valance. I bolted the tow hooks up to the tube and they extend out the tow hook holes. These tow hooks bend down and have a slight curve.
Prior to all of these, I used my dremel and sanded the tow hooks down to bare (shiny!) metal and gave them a couple coats of flat black paint.
They worked great for pulling up some bushes from the front of my house using 3/8" chain :)
I need to find the charger for my camera and take some pictures.
