Message: Why would you want to mid mount your engine? Most baja runners leave their engine in the front, what would be the advantage?
If you mid mount the engine and transmission you wouldn't have any room for a driveshaft, and even if you did have room for a drive shaft, the drive shaft angle would be way to steep for our axles. You can imagine having way more axle angle then some of the super lifted Jeeps, and they all have problems enough with axle angles.
Anyways...if you really want ot set up that sucker, you should get super long travel coil-overs in the rear and convert the rear into a massive roll cage. Then you would have all the travel in the world in the rear. If you need your bed, you can just cut holes for the coil-overs and the mounting braces they use for Pre-Runner/Baja runners.
Then you could get some coil-overs for the front and have travel there too.
All this would be cheaper then moving the engine, and way more better for performance. Moving the engine will only move the weight to the rear of the truck, which is no better then having it in the front. Your truck would just handle like a crazy Porsche 911 when they had no traction and stability control.
Stick with the engine set-up like you have, and just work on the suspension and upgrading the power of the engine. Might want to get a rear locker too.
By the way, the truck looks good with the fenders painted.

Message: when i say that i want to mid mound the engine, i mean i want it directly behind me, so there would be no rear seat, just firewall and engine. the reason that most baja trucks can get away with a front engine is because they're all 4 bangers. a v-8 is a little heavier, and my nose pitches in very bad on long jumps. a center mounted engine is the way to go as for as balance is concered. the way i'm thinking is maybe to reverse the whole drive train, then make some kind of axel u-joint or something. if you look at all of the "pro" baja trucks, they all mid mount their engines right behind the driver and co-pilot. i didn't ask about suspension, but thanks anyway. Let me rephrase the question. If anyone knows of any mod shops that does this.....drop me a line.

Message: YOUR TRUCK LOOKS RAD MAN, I JUST WANTA SAY I AGREE WITH THE POST BEFORE THIS ABOUT YOU SHOULD JUST MAJORLY BEEF UP YOUR SUSPENSION, IF YOUR GONNA WANT TO DO SOME SERIOUS JUMPING YOU SHOULD LOOK INTO GETTING SOME CUSTOM ARMS ON THE FRONT WITH COILOVERS AND AIRBUMPS, AND PUT A TOWER IN YOUR BED OR IF YOU HAVE THE FUNDS 3-LINK OR 4-LINK, ONE OF MY GOOD FRIENDS HAS AN EXTENDED CAB F-150 WITH A V8 WITH COILOVERS AND SUCH AND HIS TRUCK JUMPS AND RIDES GREAT AND HE DOESNT HAVE TO MUCH OF A PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT PITCHING FORWARD AND THATS A BIG ASS TRUCK TO BE FLYING THRU THE AIR, MAKING THE TRUCK MID ENGINE WOULD BE COOL, BUT PROBALY WAY EXPENSIVE, NOT CRITIZING THE IDEA I THINK ITS A GOOD IDEA , ALSO TO HELP LEVELING OUT FOR JUMPING YOU COULD ADD DUAL SPARES IN YOUR BED FOR MORE WEIGHT IN THE BACK, YOUR TRUCK IS TURNING OUT REALLY NICE

Message: Away from the bumps, mid-engine will give you better handling anyway, thats why all the top supercars have a mid-engine. And it would be pretty cool. Most trucks have less travel in the front than in the rear which affects how they jump cos the front bottoms out but not the rear. Mid-engine would allow masses more travel up front so stop you bottoming out as often. Just a suggestion anyway, we do that over here in the UK.

Message: Its me again. Heres a quote from www.off-roadweb.com, about mid-engines:
"In a departure from most designs, Porter Trophy Trucks have a backward-mounted engine that feeds power to a V-drive. The V-drive turns the power 180 degrees to the rear, making its final connection to an offset rear differential. Why go to the trouble of a backward-mounted mid-engine configuration? Better weight distribution and more room for suspension up front are two good answers. The best and final answer? It's off the scale in the trick department."
