Subject: 35's on a gen 2 IP: Logged
Message: i have a 95 4x4 with a 5.2 and it has a 2" body and i'm gonna swap it out for a 3" and then put the trailmaster 4" suspension on it and put some new heavy duty torsion bars on it and i was wondering if its possible to get 35's on it i've seen people with that setup and they have 33's and if you have that could you give me some idea on how much room your tires have. i was just thinking i have 31's on it now and i'd be adding about 6" more inches with the new body and the suspension stuff on it so i figured 35's would be a possibility

Message: i have seen some people that can run 35's on the 3in body lift and 4in suspension. if you do a lot of offroading, i wouldn't think that there would be much room for flex. you might get some rubbing. i've got the 3in body lift on my 94 extended cab 4x4 v8. at some point, i'm gonna add the trailmaster 4in suspension lift. super swamper trxus mud terrain tire comes in (or is goin to come in. i think its a new size) a 34x12.50r15. i think i'm gonna try to put those on and see if they'll fit. 35's will probably fit, just not with much room

Message: I just so happen to have a '93 clubcab 4x4 sitting on a set of 35x12.50x15 tsl Thornbirds. This required the 3" body, 4" suspension, torsion bars cranked up pretty hard but not maxed, and an extra leaf added to the rear spring pack. To answer the most important question they do rub Under heavy flex situations. As for the HD torsion bars I've been told that one side has been discontinued and is no longer available. If you have any other questions feel free to E-mail me at nyunker@msn.com

Message: No actually I have bushwacker extend a fender flares on it they cover the tires a little better.Ecspecially since you are supposed to run 3 1/2" backspacing wheel, stock wheels are like 5" backspacing.

Message: does anyone have pics of just a body lift on a genII? i would like to see a 2inch and a 3 inch. I would like to see how much the frame sticks out the bottom. i have also had people tel me that body lifts and cranking your T-bars up will ruin your truck and give you poor ride quality. if you want to lift your truck the only way to go is a suspension lift. is there any truth to that? how do you guys with body lifts like them.

Message: It doesn't ruin your suspension but it does ride a bit stiffer. I unfortunately don't have any pics of my truck in that stage. The frame doesn't stick out too bad I was worried about the same thing it still looks good though.

Message: with the 318 you should have no problem pushing the tires with out regearing. To find out if you have a limited slip rearend which was a very common option in 4x4 ecspecially those equipped with 318s there should be an options sticker on the under side of the hood near the hood latch. If there is no sticker jack up the rear of the truck so both rear tires are off the ground with it in park, if you can turn one tire it's an open rear if you can't turn either tire by hand it is limited slip.

Message: Coming out of lurking mode:
Click on the image my Red Dakota below. On that page you will find a link labeled “Dakota Tips & Modifications”. A little ways down on the page there will be a link labeled “Project 1HIDAK”. On that series of pages I have photos and such of the installation of the Trailmaster suspension kit on my 88. On the second page, there is a link to download a .PDF of the Trailmaster installation instructions. It’s a large file so it may take a little time to download. That should give you a pretty good idea of what is involved with the installation. Note: I installed it on my 88 and the kit is designed for 91-96 so some of the issues I encountered wont apply in you case. Another thing to note; if you plan on wheeling your truck after installing the kit, do yourself a favor and fabricate some sort of skid plate to tie the cross-member under the front differential to the lower radiator support. I’ve had to replace my cross-member twice because it’s prone to damage when lightly tapped on a rock. Trailmaster used to offer an optional skid plate but I believe it’s discontinued.
