Subject: 15" Wheel Swap? IP: Logged
Message: Just curious if anybody knows whether or not it is possible to run a set of factory 15" rims on a 2001 Dakota equipped with the new 16" tires and wheels. Seems like there are more tire options in the 15" range.

Message: Sure it's possible, but to keep from making your engine and trany from working harder for turning faster RPM's, make sure you get a little bit bigger tire to make up for the lost 1" in the rim size. So just put bigger sidewall tires on the 15's to make up the lost inch. You'll be alright then.

Message: Yea the 15's will fit. As far as tire sizes, the rim doesnt matter. Tires are measured from one side to the other (diameter). Example, a 33x12.50 for a 15 in rim is the same height as a 33x12.50 for a 16.5 in rim. The difference is in the side wall height. 16 in rim tires are mostly metric in size so if you have say 265x75R16's now and you go to a 15in rim, the closest tire size would be a 31x10.50R15. Some people are mislead by the dealers who say the truck is taller with 16 in rims. Not true. Height will be based on tire size not rim size.
